The Pop UpsĀ
Release Their Second Collection
of Indie Rock Gems:
Radio Jungle
āThe Pop Ups are Awesome!!!ā ā Yo Gabba Gabba
Ā The Pop Ups, a hip, Brooklyn based musical duo that theĀ Wall Street JournalĀ called āthe goofiest garage band” who āreflect the creativity percolating on the independent children’s music scene,ā will release their second CD,Ā Radio Jungle,Ā in time for spring. This ready-for-primetime collection of wildly imaginative and catchy tunes debuts on April 3rd from iTunes, CDBaby and other retailers.
The Pop Ups (Jason Rabinowitz and Jacob Stein) have won critical acclaim for their stage show āPASTA: A Pop Ups Puppet Musical,ā which has enjoyed successful runs in New York and Los Angeles, as well as the fall 2011 Yo Gabba Gabba Live Tour.Ā PASTA! is an educational and comic musical adventure through the magical land of Brooklyn.Ā With the audienceās help, The Pop Ups search for the ingredients to make the best (locally sourced) pasta sauce ever. The kid and adult-friendly show features colorful puppetry (created by puppeteers fromĀ The Muppet Show, Forgetting Sarah MarshallĀ and Dinosaur Rock).
The Pop Upsā first releaseĀ Outside VoicesĀ took the ākindie rockā world by surprise when it was released in 2010. Critics raved, Sirius-XM Kids Place Live added songs in heavy rotation, and the disc was recognized with a National Association of Parenting Publications Award (NAPPA) for best music, was on the ballot to be nominated for a GRAMMY, and made the Top Ten of 2010 lists fromĀ The Washington Post, Time Out New York Kids, The Fids and Kamily criticsā poll, kidsā entertainment bloggers Out with The Kids and Zooglobble, and more.
Radio JungleĀ is an even more polished, sonically cohesive and approachable collection of songs, with themes ranging from where āBananasā come from, to the artistic potential presented by a āBox of Crayons.ā Teachable moments abound, as in the phonemic āElephantsā and the bouncy counting song āMath Rock.ā Clearly, The Pop Ups have not forgotten the wonder and sheer excitement of childhood, as evident in their song āConnect the Stars,ā and their exuberance and musical prowess shine with every track. Sirius-XM’s Kids Place Live and other kids’ radio shows across the nation have already started spinning these songs in heavy rotation.
The Pop Ups are scheduling a busy spring and summer concert tour, and theyāre in the midst of producing their next puppet musical which theyāre designing to be a comedic, ecological scavenger hunt in search of color.
