Do You Use Cloth Diapers? #Giveaway-$30 GC to Snuggy Baby

I am not a cloth diapering mama and I make no excuses. It is nothing that every appealed to me. Sure the prints are cute and they look sweet but when reality hits, those adorable diapers…well, let’s just say…not for me. However, as a blogger, one focused on bringing you great products, I go outside my comfort zone to showcase products you might love. So if you are a cloth diapering mama, you just want to keep reading.

Recently I was contacted by Snuggy Baby to see if I wanted to review one of their All In 2 diapers. Again, with my audience in mind, I said sure. I have to say the diapers are very cute. I chose one with adorable owls and woodland animals on the fabric. I also pick a hemp insert. These diapers are designed to fit babies from 8-35 lbs. There are 4 rise settings, cross over snaps the cinch and crotch and bottom snaps.

The hemp insert has a removable infant insert is inserted in the diaper alone when using for a newborn. It can then be added back to the middle of the inserts as an extra soaker pad for larger babies. It took a little time for me to get the liner in the diaper but I am sure it was because it was my first time doing anything like that. You are supposed to wash the inserts several times before use for maximum absorbancy.

If you want to see my video review of the diaper, you can check it out below. I apologize as it is not the best and I fumbled a bit but it is what it is.

Snuggy Baby also has baby wraps, wet bags, doll slings and more. If you want to win a $30 Gift Certificate to Snuggy Baby then just enter the giveaway below. If you use Snuggy Baby diapers feel free to tell us what you think in the comments.

Having A Baby In Your 40’s Is A Blessing Not A Death Sentence

As I was scrolling through my Facebook feed yesterday, I came across a post from Brain Child Magazine. They were sharing an article from a woman named, Estelle Erasmus. The title of her article was, I had a baby in my 40s. Part of my job is preparing my daughter for life without me.

Now, as a writer, I know that the headline is the magnet and this writer wanted to draw the reader in. The headline  made me angry. I  knew what the article was going to say and I was right. I wrote a comment from my heart under the Facebook post since I could not leave a comment on the article. In seconds I started to get likes and comments with people agreeing with me and sharing similar stories.

So you might wonder why I was so upset by the article. I am going to tell you. There are a few reasons. First, just because a woman is in her 40’s when she gives birth does not mean she is going to die when her child is young. There is no reason she should be living her life preparing her daughter for a life without her. Why do that? That is not living with a positive outlook on life nor is it a realistic outlook either. Do you know how long women have been having babies in their 40’s? It is nothing new.#pregnancy, Older moms, babies

So many women in my own neighborhood growing up had one or more babies in their 40’s. While it was usually not their first child as it was for this woman, they were still having a new baby in their 40’s. No one treated them as if they were at death’s door either. In fact, I was born to a mother who was 2 weeks shy of her 44th birthday.

When my mother found out she was pregnant with her 5th child at 43, her doctor told her it meant she was young and healthy. Never once did I feel my mother was doing anything to prepare me for life without her. My mother had great genetics, her father, my grandfather was 82 when I was born and he lived to be almost 102. He was healthy and happy right to the end of his life.

#pregnancy, Older moms, babies

My mother had her first child at 21 and her last at 44. Having babies later in life kept my parents young. Various studies have shown that women who have babies later in life, live longer than those who don’t. This is due to the fact that being able to conceive and carry a child to term at that age shows their bodies are young and healthy.

#pregnancy, Older moms, babies

Having a baby young does not guarantee that child will not lose their parent at a young age. I don’t think any parent should  spend their time preparing a child for how to live without them based on an age. What kind of life is that? It is morbid and depressing. They may spend energy doing that only to find they are still going strong at age 100 while their child is nearing the age of 60. All that wasted energy could have been used for better things. Often the things we worry about and lose energy over never happen.

We all know that age is a number. There is no guarantee that a younger mother will outlive an older one.  My best friend growing up was born to a younger mother. She lost her mom at a young age from cancer. Another friend lost her mom at a very young age in a car accident. A mother having a child at 23 may find out she has cancer and die at age 24. On the other hand, a 40-year-old mother may live to 103.

#pregnancy, Older moms, babies

We don’t know, life has no guarantees. Why should we waste a moment of it trying to prepare a child for a life without us if we have no terminal diagnosis? We need to embrace our children and life at any age. Children are a blessing and it does not matter if we are 20, 30, 40 or beyond.

Life happens and we have children on God’s timing. Many woman are trying desperately to have a child and would not waste one moment thinking about such things as preparing their child for a life without them. Instead they would lavish every moment of life with their child.

#pregnancy, Older moms, babies

Life is not predictable. Anything can happen at any time. Age does not hold iron clad guarantees of any kind. In the blink of an eye,  a young mother or a more mature mother can be gone. We just don’t know. Our thoughts are so powerful. Shouldn’t we enjoy life and think positively? Why go through life preparing your child for something you think might happen?

Why not harness the power of positive thinking and believe you are going to live to a ripe old age? Visualize yourself living a full life, leaving a great legacy and a child who qualifies for the senior citizen discount at Target. As a mother in 3 different decades of my life, I can say, be thankful for the experience of Motherhood at any age, it truly is a blessing.

#HolidayGiftGuide Corolle Baby Doll Giveaway!

corolle logo
As a lifelong doll lover, I really love this post. Why? It is about dolls of course. I think dolls are a classic toy of childhood that let children model loving and caring for a baby and teaches them how to nurture a small baby or child.  Dolls can also help a child who will soon be welcoming a new sibling to the family. Before the new baby arrives the child and parent can talk about all the care and time the baby will need. Then when the baby arrives the parent can encourage the child to do the same things with the doll they are seeing them do with their baby sibling.
Now if you have a brand new little one that is your own or on your holiday list that you would like to introduce to dolls, the  Babi Corolle soft dolls have sweetly expressive faces that will captivate and soothe baby. All Babi Corolle first soft dolls are designed with multiple “handles” so they are easy for tiny fingers to grasp and explore. Unique combinations of ultra-soft and supple materials and textures delight and intrigue little ones, and everything in the Babi Corolle collection is produced to meet all applicable mandatory and voluntary safety standards.

Safe and Stylish Products Designed To Give Babies The Best Start With Bonus Giveaway!

MAM pacifiers have been around a long time. I remember way back using one with my oldest when they were a relatively new company. They have continued to grow and evolve over the years into a trusted and very recommended pacifier line by moms and health care professionals alike. I saw the most adorable Rock and Roll pacifiers from MAM and they come in value packs too! In a value pack you get 2 pacifiers and a pacifier holder all in a central theme. Check out the Rock and Roll Pacifier Value Packs for Boys and Girls:

MAM Boy Rock and Roll Value Pack Pacifier

MAM Girls Rock an Roll Set

The key to MAM’s success is design. It’s unique because it satisfies both the highest stylistic demands that are placed on products and the functional requirements that ensure babies get the best start in life. And the way that MAM develops every single one of its products is also unique: it engages in an international working dialogue spanning different disciplines with designers, medical experts, scientists, technology specialists and parents.

I just love the MAM pacifiers. They are big on the cuteness factor but they are so much more than that. They are a pacifier that is anatomically correct, adapting to the baby’s mouth so the pacifier is always in the proper position. A curved shield, big air holes and an innovative inside surface all comfort baby and help prevent skin irritation. All MAM pacifiers also feature a soft silicone nipple that feels more like mom and an anti-slip surface that helps keep the pacifier in baby’s mouth. MAM has pacifiers perfect for newborns right through to sizes for older babies. MAM makes more than pacifiers, check out their Bottles, Sippy Cups, Nipples and Accessories HERE! They also have Oral Care Products and Teethers!

Hate Unsolicited Parenting Advice? We Have The Answer! #ParentOn *Giveaway*

parent On Tommee TippeeDo you ever get unsolicited parenting advice?  Are some of the people who offer this advice so freely and with complete confidence not even parents? It does seem like people without children think of themselves as parenting experts? I think every parent has been on the receiving end of this “expert” advice at one time or another. You know what I mean, the ones that tell you their kids will never do this or that.  Their kids will never interrupt, never cry, never wake up in the middle of the night, never have a tantrum, never get sick and ruin their plans and more. In fact their kids won’t even cause one ripple in their lifestyle!

Then you have the older, experienced parents who want to let you know that they have been there and done that. They want to tell you what it was like in their day. In there day…children were seen and not heard, had respect, ate what was in front of them, listened the first time, knew their place, were not spoiled, would never have a tantrum in the store, did not need car seats or fancy toys, were happy playing with a stick in the dirt.

parent on advice

If you have received unsolicited parenting advice from friends, strangers, parents, grandparents, coworkers or anyone else that wants to point out your child is too big to have that bottle, should not be using a sippy cup, should go to bed without crying, should eat everything on his plate, should be potty trained, should not still have a pacifier and more you probably feel like exploding.

#ParentOn, #TommeeMommee, Tommee Tippee

It can be hard to stay in control when what you want to say is, “Who Asked You?” There is a much better way to handle their advice. Just #ParentOn and ignore the unsolicited advice, trust your instincts and embrace all of the perfectly imperfect parenting moments you will have as your children grow. Sure you will make mistakes, we all do! I will let you in on a little secret-the so-called parenting experts will be making mistakes too when they finally have kids.

We all have had that unsolicited advice and one of my favorites is when I was told my daughter should be potty trained at 12 months old! That was a great one! What is your memorable #ParentOn moment? I would love if you would share it in the comments.

Tommee Tippee is sponsoring a giveaway for a 2-Pack of 9 oz. Feeding Bottles and a Pack of 0-6m Pacifiers*! Just enter with the Rafflecopter widget below.  Good Luck! Open to US residents.

Trying To Conceive? This May Help. #BabyStory

Regarding fertility, I guess one could say, I’ve been lucky. I was able to conceive easily and usually on the first try. I however knew many friends and family that struggled trying to get pregnant. Month after month of disappointment instead of a positive pregnancy test can make stress levels rise. Couples are told to relax when that seems to be impossible. For some couples time is a factor and they don’t have the time to just wait and see. Many couples want to be proactive and increase their chances to conceive.

After our fourth child was born, we were shocked to find out we were pregnant again when he was just 3 months old. It was quite a shocker since we were not trying. We knew we wanted another baby just were not planning to try for another few months. Sadly about 2 months later we lost that baby. Our OB advised us to wait 3 months before attempting to conceive again. As soon as we had the green light we tried and 2 pink lines made us super excited but a few days later, out excitement turned to sadness as we lost that pregnancy.

I made an appointment to see a specialist as I was very concerned. My first babies were conceived on the first try and were successfully carried to term without any complications. Now here I was, albeit only 7 months after our 4th babies birth with two losses. The doctor told me the second loss was most likely a chemical pregnancy and that given the sensitivity of pregnancy test today they were seeing them more and more. In the past these chemical pregnancies would go unnoticed and a woman would just think she was 2-3 days late.

He told us that there was no reason to think anything was wrong and that there was no intervention that needed to be taken at that time. He told us just to try again and that very attempt ended in a live birth! I know that compared to couples struggling for months and years with difficulty conceiving this may seem trivial but when you are trying to achieve that desired pregnancy even a month or two of disappointment can be heartbreaking. When you add in the loss of a pregnancy, it kicks the fears up more than a notch.

For me the reassurance of that specialist really worked to reduce my stress. I am an anxious person and had thousands of thoughts running through my head. Some may say they cannot believe I would jump the gun and see a specialist so soon but for my stress it worked so well. I left the office feeling reassured and confident. When we conceived that month, I attributed much of it to that peace of mind he gave me. I think if anyone is concerned that something is not right they should go to see a doctor and not think they have to wait 6 months or a year before pursuing that. I truly believe the simple reassurance can reduce stress which has been shown to negatively affect the ability to conceive.

Many times the stress of trying to conceive can lead to vaginal dryness and discomfort. The tendency to reach for a lubricant may seem logical but all lubricants are not equal. Some lubricants can actually impede sperm which is certainly the opposite of what any couple trying to achieve pregnancy wants.

Astroglide TTC Trying to Conceive™ is a specially formulated for couples who are trying to conceive. Astroglide TTC supports fertility with adjusted pH levels, compatible osmolality and a consistency similar to your body’s cervical mucus. Providing the optimal environment for sperm survival is paramount when trying to conceive. Specially formulated with adjusted pH levels that are compatible with sperm Astroglide TTC™ is more like your own cervical mucus.

Astroglide TTC™ also contains galactose which is naturally found in semen and fructose which is the main source of energy for sperm, giving them a better chance of survival and ability to move freely when compared to traditional lubricants. Astroglide TTC™ is priced at only $12.99 and is the best value on the market in comparison to competitive lubricants. Click HERE to see where you can buy Astroglide TTC™. How I Created A Nursery That’s A Jungle Of Fun-#MagicBabyMoments

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone.
#MagicBabyMoments #CollectiveBias

#MagicBabyMoments Collage

Living on a lake in a resort town, we do a lot of entertaining, especially in the summer. When you factor that we have 2 large homes on this lake, we get our share of company. Having five kids, we have loads of baby and kid gear,  so if someone forgets any baby gear or accessories, we have extras.  We decided it would be a good idea to help our guests out and make things as easy as possible when traveling with baby. We have a large home with many bedrooms so we thought about creating a nursery in one of the guest spaces.

The youngest 2 of our five kids were super close in age and both in cribs at the same time, so we had all the major pieces.  We decided to set up a crib and create a nursery space that will be a welcome relief to our visiting family with babies and toddlers.  We think it will be a huge relief to them  not having to stuff more oversized baby gear in their car or van when visiting.

I was in Walmart the other day and saw their Disney Baby bedding collection.  It was literally flying off the shelves it was so popular.  I spoke with an associate who told me that was why it seemed sparse.  I was lucky to find an adorable Disney Baby Lion King Jungle Fun, 3 Piece Bedding Set that would look great and was unisex. The set has accents of tan, aqua, ivory, green and brown that give me lots of decorating and painting options.

lion king in store aisle

I also picked up a coordinating super soft plush Disney Baby Lion King Jungle Fun Plush Blanket and Knit Beanie. The 3 piece crib set includes a dust ruffle, crib sheet and comforter.  Everything is affordably priced and perfect for a brand new nursery or as an easy way to update an existing one.

lion king collage in store

Heading home I could not wait to deck out the crib with the new bedding.  I was impressed with the quality of the set. For such a small price, I didn’t expect it to be so nice. What a pleasant surprise to unpack the items and find the great quality. The darling appliqued comforter is a large 42″ by 33″, the fabric is a 100% polyester microfiber that feels great. The three pieces are easy to care for and are machine washable and dryable. The comforter is so nice and has one cub with a velvety feel that little ones will just love.

The coordinating Lion King plush blanket is super soft and comes with a knit beanie with cute playful ears in a golden shade of yellow great for boys or girls.  The blanket is 30″ by 40″ and is machine washable and dryable for easy care which I love.  It will be easy to freshen the bedding between our little guests.

Lion King Nursery 3

I am in the process of going through and adding all the Lion King accents we have like the Pumba and Timon.  I have all of the characters in plush, even figurines. I am going to add to a cute little shelf I just painted aqua and will hang on the wall.  I still have a lot I want to do like paint the walls a shade of green and bring the changing table in too! I am a perfectionist so I want everything perfect but decided to just get going and get the biggest piece in and work around that.  I will update when it’s all finished.

I think the Disney Baby Lion King Jungle Fun 3 Piece Crib Bedding  Set and blanket with cap make an adorable theme for this new guest nursery.  What do you think?  Would love to hear your thoughts in the comments

Pregnant For Quadruplets at 65! How Old Is Too Old?

Older moms have been flooding the news the last few days.  There is the 61-year-old mom who carried her own grandson for her infertile daughter.  She is not the first to do this and it’s an incredible gift most are applauding her for.  There is a much more controversial older mom making headlines today.  Annegret Raunigk an elementary school teacher in Germany and mother of 13 is pregnant.

You may be amazed she is pregnant for her 14th child or given the Duggars you may find it not too newsworthy.  If I told you she was 65, you may find it newsworthy, but if I add that she is not just pregnant for baby number 13 but for quadruplets…I think it is fair to say you would be shocked.

Perhaps the biggest shocker would be that this elementary school teacher is 65 years old.  She is also not carrying the babies for an infertile child but to give a sibling to her 13th child that she gave birth to 9 years ago at the age of 55. Her naturally achieved pregnancy at the age of 55 was considered something close to a miracle. At the age of 65 though Annegret turned to fertility specialists.

Annegret’s other children range in age from 22 to 44 and she balks at being told she is too old to have more children.  She finds cliches about being too old exhausting.  I am sure having quadruplets at 65 or any age for that matter is the true meaning of exhausting.  However Dr. Holger Stepan, head of obstetrics at the University Hospital of Leipzig, called the pregnancy “an absolute disaster.” He told Berliner Morgenpost that it wasn’t just Raunigk who’s at risk — so are her four fetuses.

As with any controversial topic, the public is also voicing their opinions.  Some are calling Annegret selfish and irresponsible.  Others are saying that the medical professionals that allowed this are at fault.  While others are voicing their opinion that it’s no one else’s business and more power to her.

I remember when I was expecting my son Ethan there was a woman Frieda Birnbaum, 60, from my home town in Bergen County, NJ that was expecting twins.  The twins were born and mother and babies did well but it was not without controversy.

Frieda also wished to give her young son a sibling as well as go against the stigma attached to older women giving birth.  Birnbaum and her attorney husband were married for 38 years and had two children at the time ages 33 and 6.  Mrs. Birnbaum went to South Africa for the fertility treatments that made her the oldest American woman to give birth to twins.

If all goes well Annegret will be the oldest mother to give birth to quadruplets.  So far the pregnancy has been free of major complications and she is due in the summer.  Annegret underwent several unsuccessful IVF attempts before becoming pregnant with the quads and was said to be shocked to learn she was carrying four babies.  She has not considered selective reduction in order to reduce the risks to her and the babies.

So what do you think?  Should people just mind their own business?  Are the doctors irresponsible?  How old is too old?  Should women’s rights mean that a woman can choose to have a baby at any age?  Let me hear what you think. If you like reading about pregnancy, you can see more at borncute.
