Craigslist Fails, Bloopers and Ads That Make You Say, “What The Heck Were They Thinking???”

Do you have luck finding  great deals on Craigslist?  I have found some great treasures like my huge, oak roll top desk and some antique furniture for incredible prices.  However, it does take some searching and the luck of good timing.  While browsing ads, you are bound to run into some ads that truly will have you scratching your head.

There are people selling things who cannot even bother to close a drawer or dust the top off a desk or dresser, take pictures of a mirror showing their shirtless selves in the background, think anything old is antique, vintage or worth a lot of money.

I want to share some recent “What the Heck?” moments with you and let me know if you have found some funnies in your neck of Craigslist.  Another brilliant ad are the ones that say something like “curb alert” or state that if this does not sell tody it will be on the curb tomorrow but the asking price is firm.  LOL, yes let me come pay you tonight instead of getting it off the curb tomorrow.  I am so amused that they are not budging on the price now but in less than 24 hours they don’t care to even get one dollar for it.  These had to be the ones who were at the top of their marketing class!

Enjoy:

Fine old chair the ad states, just needs upholstering. I have no idea what could have caused those rips and I am telling you now be very wary if he says it is from a pet free home, but it’s yours for $75 much to the cat’s dismay.

cat chair

Found an Antique Snuggle Bear in the Antique listings, was not aware the Snuggle Bear was a sought after item much less an antique!  $15 is the asking price for this heirloom!

Should I close the drawers and at least kick the mess away from the floor?  Nah, that is such a quality piece that people will not even notice.

Messy Dresser

Man in the mirror times 2!

They said it will be clean when you pick it up.  Eww, if you are going to clean it, how about wait until you do to list it for sale.

Toilet Dirty

Felicity is an antique? I guess so since she is listed as an antique doll.  People should really look the word up and vintage, discontinued, collectible or old do not qualify everything as antique.

Felicity

I myself would not classify this as Antique but apparently this man does along with “Highly Collectible” and for $30 he will even let you take some VHS tapes to go with it!    Hey better jump on this fast it only has minimal flaws!

ANTIQUE INDUSTRIAL REPRODUCTION DISTRESSED LARGE WALL CLOCK – $185 (sold by an antique store)  I know he says reproduction but he says, “sold by an antique store”.  He fails to mention he picked this up at Hobby Lobby on the bi weekly 50% off sale.

Clock Antique

Yeah that looks like the back of an antique! LOL

Yeah that looks like the back of an antique! LOL

Are they selling the rocking chair or the plants? Apparently the rocking chair because they need to buy a plant stand.

Now for something sad, sometimes the furniture itself is so embarrassed it leaves in what we call “furniture without borders.”

The dresser is trying desperately to get away and almost made it, until the woman found it and is trying to force it back in the house

The dresser distraction was not in vain because it allowed the coat tree  to high tail it down the road.

This is for sale under Vintage Artificial Fruit!  That certainly looks exactly like what you buy in the Walmart craft aisle.

Vintage Artifical Fruit

Listed as Metal Thingy–Guy selling it says he has no idea what it is but it has to be worth something.

Hey wait, I have seen these before.  I guess the sales were not so brisk with the man in them.  Now we have the dog sitting patiently on the stairs

The Good Old Days of Party Lines, Live Operators and Busy Signals!!!

The other day I was talking with my aunt who is in her 80’s.  She is very spry, goes to fitness classes and very active physically and mentally.  We were talking about calling someone and I told her the call went straight to voice mail and that maybe the person was on the line.  She then said to me, “Wouldn’t that give you a busy signal then?”   When she said that I was so surprised, “busy signal” when is the last time I had heard one of those?

party-lines

I laughed and told her no, that it would just go to voice mail and even wondered if the busy signal still existed.  It made me think and since my uncle and her and my family both had vacation homes on the same lake, it made me think back to a time when I was super young and on the lake people had party lines. Can you even imagine?

Our party line was with my Aunt and Uncle and for those that don’t know; a party line is a phone line that people share.  They were very popular in vacation areas and one household had a regular ring and the other a variation.  We had the regular ring and my Aunt and Uncle had the 2 short rings.  When I think about it now it seems surreal.  Can you imagine?  I remember listening for the phone and  either saying it was ours or theirs.  You also had to be careful when you picked up to dial out because the other family may be using the phone.  I remember stories from other  kids on the lake who were on party lines with  unrelated families proudly recanting conversations they eavesdropped on.

pink rotary phone

We had moved to a private line by the time I was probably 5 so I do not have that many memories but when I think of it today, I cringe.  What if you were on a party line with someone who received incessant calls at all hours of the night, or that used the phone all time so you could never call out or get calls in?

My kids know nothing of party lines and would probably think I was out of my mind if I told them how it worked.  How times have changed!  Speaking of busy signals, do you remember how you could click the little disconnect buttons three times to reach an operator?  Do you remember how the operator could ring a phone that was off the hook if say a small child was monkeying around with it? Also, how when you reached a number that was busy for so long and you would call the operator to interrupt the line because it was say your home line and you knew a younger sibling was using the phone or your mom doing it to you when she was trying to call home.  The operator would click into the line and say, “I have so and so on the line and they say it is an emergency will you give up the line?”  Ah good times!

operator

The Rotary Dial was another time saver, NOT!  Ever try to call in on a radio station contest with one of those?  Then when they had the push buttons with pulse mode you still had to wait but you could push a button.  No auto redial and redialing on the rotary dial really gave those fingers that do the walking a workout!  Speaking of letting your fingers do the walking, remember the bit phone books that doubled as booster seats?  Do you even use a phone book now?  I can’t even imagine.  Phones and technology have truly come a long way baby!

“Against The Wild” DVD, Great Family Film Review & Giveaway!!!

TOGETHER THEY WILL FIND A WAY.

AGAINST THE WILD BRINGS THE UNFORGETTABLE WILDERNESS ADVENTURE OF TWO SIBLINGS TO AUDIENCES ON DVD AND DIGITAL DOWNLOAD – MARCH 11, 2014

AgainstThe Wild DVD

Families from coast-to-coast will come along on a breathtaking and uplifting wilderness adventure when Anchor Bay Entertainment unleashes Against the Wild on DVD and digital download for the first time. The action-packed feature film tells the dramatic tale of two siblings and their Alaskan Malamute, who must make an emergency landing when their small plane has engine problems. They find themselves in a beautiful but potentially dangerous natural environment that they must overcome together.

Written and directed by Richard Boddington, starring CJ Adams (The Odd Life of Timothy GreenDan in Real Life), Erin Pitt (Silent Hill: Revelation 3DCamp Rock 2: The Final Jam and the upcoming American Girl: Isabelle Dances into the Spotlight) and Natasha Henstridge (“She Spies,” The Whole Nine Yards) and co-starring John Tench (Tooth Fairy), the film makes its national retail and digital debut on March 11, 2014.

A gripping adventure for the whole family, Against the Wild (SRP $24.98) begins with siblings Zach (Adams) and Hannah (Pitt) traveling by seaplane with Chinook, their Alaskan Malamute, to visit their father (Ted Whittall of “Beauty & The Beast”) for the weekend. When their plane encounters engine trouble, the pilot is forced to make an emergency landing in the woods in the middle of nowhere. As they travel on foot to seek help, Zach, Hannah and their loyal companion come face-to-face with the challenges of the wilds – from wolves and grizzly bears to forest fires. Using all the wilderness skills they know – and with some help from Chinook, the siblings must work together to overcome each obstacle and conquer the ultimate goal – returning home again.

An exciting, fast-paced adventure with beautiful cinematography and a stirring musical score performed by a live 65-piece orchestra in Prague, Against the Wild will keep the whole family on the edge of their seat from start to finish.

If you are looking for an all around great family film to enjoy for movie night, Against the Wild is my top pick!  Adventure that will keep the whole family entertained and excited is what you get when you pop this in your DVD player.  My kids love animals and watching a movie with lots of adventures and kids they could relate to kept the glued to the big screen. I know without a doubt this will be a movie they will request to see again and again.

Gourmet Dinner & Movie Date Night Idea for Under $20!!! #KYDateNight #ad

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for Collective Bias and its advertiser.

KY-Date-Night-#KYDateNight- #cbias-#ad

My husband and I don’t  get the chance to go out by ourselves much.  With five kids, including two little ones, no family nearby and very busy schedules, date nights out of our home are not in the cards at this time.  However, just because we can’t get out for a “date” doesn’t mean we can’t stay in and still have a great date night.

Sure, you need to get a little creative, but where there’s a will there’s a way right?  If you’re in the same boat and want to do something special for you and your love, I hope this inspires you.  My husband and I had a land and sea dinner with balsamic marinated skirt steak and shrimp scampi, all the food was delivered fresh from Plated.com.  We also watched a great movie on Vudu.com which we turned into a real theater experience with popcorn and our favorite movie theater candy.

Do you think that sounds like it might be expensive?  What if I told you that it was included in a special package of K-Y Yours + Mine couples lubricants?  It was, and the K-Y Yours + Mine was under $15 at Walmart.  You can easily spend 6 times that going out to a gourmet dinner and a movie.  You would not even be able to buy 2 movie tickets for $15 in most theaters not to mention the price they charge for popcorn, candy and drinks!

Walmart has specially marked boxes of K-Y Yours + Mine that include gift codes to Plated.com and Vudu.com (a $40 value)!

 KY-Date-Night-#KYDateNight- #cbias-#ad

KY-Date-Night-#KYDateNight- #cbias-#ad

We lucked out big time because Plated.com had a special when we went online to order our dinner and doubled the amount of dinners.  We then picked out a land and a sea option!  On Vudu.com you can browse form hundreds of movies that will stream instantly for you.

There are a lot of ways you can enhance the date night experience at home.  Pinterest can be a great source of inspiration where you can find some date night theme printables that will add a lot of fun.  Pop up some popcorn and instead of eating it out of the bag, put it in some fun popcorn containers, then head off to the big candy bins that are in Walmart and pick out some boxes of your favorites.  You can also whip up some special deserts to have after dinner too!

Put the kids to bed early and then have fun preparing dinner together. My husband and I like to cook and with Plated it was so easy to get to the fun part. Everything was sent fresh to us along with the recipes so there was no shopping or planning on our part. We had a lovely dinner of balsamic marinated skirt steak with creamy, corn polenta and shrimp scampi with cauliflower bruschetta.

After dinner we took our dessert, candy and popcorn into the family room.  We fired up the big screen and browsed the available movies on Vudu.com and picked our movie.

After movie time, it’s time to move the party upstairs with K-Y Yours + Mine.  We had a date night that rocked all night long!
