Christmas DIY Glitter Ornaments

My Grinch Glitter Ornaments

I love crafting, and one of the best things I learned to make was glitter ornaments using clear plastic ornament shapes. The first time I made them I used Polycrylic and extra fine glitter. I eventually tried the Mop and Glow instead of the Polycrylic. I think both products worked well, but I do think that the Polycrylic may hold up better in the long run.

Watch My Tutorial

I used my Cricut Maker to further decorate the ornaments with words or the Grinch graphics. I gave them as presents to family, friends and my children’s teachers. For their teachers, I personalized the back of the Grinch ornaments with their names. The teachers absolutely loved the ornaments, they were a huge hit!

Win an Autogrphed Copy of Anne Wilson’s Debut Album “My Jesus”

Anne Wilson - Jeff Roberts Agency

Today was a horrendous day. I emotionally broke down, it erupted out of something mundane, but I just sobbed and sobbed. Grief is like that. I am approaching the two-year anniversary of the day my life changed forever. May 6th will be two years since my precious son Raymond Charles unexpectedly passed away. I know that as I approach that date, my emotions are all over the place. I love and miss my son beyond which any words could express.

I had an assignment for my blog and it was to review Anne Wilson’s debut album, “My Jesus” which was just released on April 22nd. After feeling emotionally broken, I scoffed to myself at the email. It was just a reminder of work I had taken on that I did not feel I could complete. However, I listened to one song and then to the title track “My Jesus“. It was an official music video and it sent chills up my spine. It opened with parents finding out the worst news ever as they stood in a hospital hallway with their younger daughter nearby.

The video told the story about the loss of a son and hopeless parents who are brought hope through Jesus. This video and the lyrics of the song spoke to me and the end gave me goosebumps as it is revealed that Anne Wilson’s own brother lost his life in 2017 in a car crash.

After seeing the end of the video, I watched Anne’s “My Story” video where she talks about how the tragic loss of her brother in 2017 inspired the title track of her debut album. It was very moving and I could identify with many of the things she spoke about.

If you are struggling right now, you might relate to the lyrics of “My Jesus”:

Are you past the point of weary

Is your burden weighing heavy

Is it all too much to carry

Let me tell you ‘bout my Jesus

Do you feel that empty feeling

‘Cause shame’s done all its stealing

And you’re desperate for some healing

Let me tell you ‘bout my Jesus

Another song from the album called “Mamas” features Hillary Scott from Lady A and will be released on May 4th for Mother’s Day. The video includes footage of Anne surprising her mother with the son and Hillary Scott with her daughters.

My Jesus

Here are some fun facts about Anne Wilson:
Anne Wilson is the first female solo artist debut single to reach #1 on the Billboard Christian Airplay chart. Her debut single “My Jesus” was the longest #1 single on Billboard’s Christian Airplay chart of 2021 at 7 weeks total.

“My Jesus” was nominated for a 2022 Billboard Music Award for “Top Christian Song” against Kayne West. The awards will broadcast live coast-to-coast on May 15 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on NBC. It will also stream live on Peacock.

“My Jesus” Hit #1 on Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 and #19 on the Rolling Stone Top 25 Trending charts. Anne Wilson was featured as Billboard’s October 2021 Chartbreaker Artist in their 21 Under 21 issue

7 Must-Have Kids Cooking Accessories for a Fun and Safe Kitchen Experience

Free Woman in Purple Robe Holding White Ceramic Bowl Stock Photo

To most mothers, it is undeniably essential to teach their children the very pinnacle of domestic chores. Cooking is a task that engages both the mind and the body. Children often find it interesting to know how to create the delicious meals they eat.

When children come of age, parents often want to equal their eagerness by making the teaching process enjoyable. However, curiosity may put them in difficult situations without the proper guidance or equipment.

To avoid potential mishaps, there are several kitchen accessories you can purchase to ensure  a fun cooking experience with your kid:

Apron

The need for a cute, colorful, and small apron requires no explanation. Children are visual learners who effectively imitate the most notable things they see. An apron will prevent messes and make them genuinely feel the role of cooking because they see their parents wear it.

Although the primary function of the apron is to teach your children not to get food on their clothes, children must also learn to look bright and presentable like their parents. You can find many great shops around such as My Happy Helpers that offer quality aprons perfect for the kitchen and allow your children to retain that adorable outfit.

Tongs

Frying is inevitable in cooking, especially when most of the food children enjoy is often dipped in oil. If the heat emerging from the pan scares your little helper, tongs help keep a safe distance, allowing them to participate in the process.

In addition, not only do tongs help with flipping the nuggets, but they also reach through boiling water. Cooking may also involve handling foods from the oven. It is the same principle of keeping away from the heat except, now, distance is being used.

Gloves

Cooking is not always cooking! Often, children will feel sudden cravings for cookies. Baking involves a lot of skinship with the ingredients, and therefore, it is vital to instill in the child’s mind the importance of wearing gloves.

The material over their hands will prevent any harmful particles from entering the food they are making. Of course, washing hands before handling the ingredients is most appropriate, but no one can monitor what else the child has touched. Therefore, using gloves is the safest way to go.

Arm Cuffs

Arm cuffs may sound new to the parent. It is a literal cotton cuff that covers below the elbow towards the wrist and serves as protection from oil, heat, or grease. The lower region of the arm is a child’s most vulnerable part of the skin.

Arm cuffs are usually made of cotton or muslin material which easily shields the skin from unwanted substances. Muslin fabric is incredibly breathable for the skin. Therefore, it is only rightful that arm cuffs be worn to avoid scars or burns, often gained in that part of the body.

Ceramic Blade Knife

The holy grail of the cooking  process is cutting. Among many others, children want to learn the precision and sharpness of the cut, or maybe experience it. Ceramic blade knives, then, are highly recommended.

Ceramic blades are manufactured in a way that precisely cuts through food but requires great force to cut through flesh. The lightness of the design also allows children to lift and use it comfortably. Thus, if you’re looking for a safe way to let your children practice slicing, a micro-ceramic blade is the perfect tool for the job.

Stainless Steel Pan

Non-stick pans are all the rage nowadays. In addition, most households use non-stick pans for convenience due to the lack of time allotted for cooking. However, stainless steel pans are a better start for beginners as the heat is evenly regulated on its surface.

Children are yet to learn how to adjust the heat level and so they need an evenly regulated pan to assist. Of course, parents will be present to give them detailed explanations on how to do it properly; children must practice with the utmost comfort for them to enjoy the experience.

Wood Handle

Aside from using potholders, it is essential to use fool-proof items in the kitchen that eliminate every possibility of danger. Therefore, any equipment within the child’s reach must have a wooden handle; as much as possible.

Any other material except metal may suffice, but wood promotes a tighter grip and much less heat conductivity. Wood also has a brighter color contrast to the pan. Most wood handles come in beige or maple in color and will be identifiable compared to the dark gray portion of the pan, which visually engages the children to move their hands away from it.

Final Thoughts

Cooking is an exciting endeavor for children despite being quite exhausting for adults. Creating meals brings a family together as much as delectable food. But make sure to keep your kids away from the heat, the sharp edges, and the mess! Happy cooking!

Cookware Crisis – 6 Ways You’re Ruining Your Nonstick Cookware (and What to Do Instead)

Vegetable Pan, Tomatoes, Leek, Spring Onions, Hearty

Buying your first nonstick cookware set is one of the most exciting milestones in any foodie’s life. It means you can flip the perfect pancakes without the batter sticking to your pan, and cleanup is a breeze.

As easy to use as quality nonstick cookware sets are, ruining them can be just as effortless. The good news is, you can save your pots and pans and maintain them for longer with the following helpful tips.

1. Nonstick Cooking Spray

Many people assume that they should use a nonstick cooking spray with their nonstick pots and pans, but this type of cooking spray is actually not compatible with nonstick cookware.

That’s because, over time, nonstick cooking spray can cause greasy build-up on your cookware that’s impossible to remove.

The nonstick quality of the pan or pot means that you don’t have to use any nonstick cooking spray to ensure the food doesn’t stick to the pan. So, stay clear of any nonstick sprays, and use olive oil or butter instead. These have the added benefit of giving extra flavor to your food.

2. Scrapping the Nonstick Coating Off

Did you know that the utensils you use are of vital importance when it comes to your nonstick pans? Metal spoons are the worst type of spoons to use on nonstick cookware.

For best results, always use wooden or silicone spoons and spatulas on your nonstick cookware sets. They’ll glide effortlessly without ruining the nonstick surface.

3. Incorrect Heat

When cooking with nonstick cookware, you’ll want to avoid high heat. Keep your stove set to medium or low heat to protect the nonstick quality of the pan. You should also avoid placing your nonstick pan in the oven as this might also damage it.

4. Sponge and Pot Scrapers

As convenient as it can be to use the rough side of the sponge to remove grease from your new pots and pans, it’s not the best idea as this could ruin your nonstick coating.

Only clean your nonstick pans with warm soapy water and the soft side of your sponge. Avoid using scrappers too as they can cause scratches. If you’re reluctant to use a sponge, then you can try microfiber towels instead.

Water Flow, Static, Wash The Dishes

5. Using Your Pots and Pans Correctly

While nonstick pans and pots are excellent for cooking, they are not ideal for storing leftover food overnight or even for a few hours. So, make sure to not leave your nonstick cookware sets soaking in water overnight. Instead, wash them immediately after use.

6. You Need to Cook Differently with Nonstick Cookware

The secret to getting it right with nonstick cookware is to switch up your cooking style. Instead of heating the butter or oil first and then putting your ingredients in the pan, place both the butter and ingredients in the pan at the same time. Then, turn on the heat and start cooking.

Making this one change can significantly improve your nonstick cookware’s lifespan, and it’ll be easier to clean and maintain.

As with anything, do your best to look after your nonstick cookware sets. If you notice that your cookware is no longer as nonstick as it once was, or it looks as if it has seen better days, then you’ll do well to replace it with newer pots and pans. However, if it’s still relatively new, then you can keep your nonstick cookware in mint condition for longer by remembering to follow these tips.

Hooded Eyes Do’s and Don’ts

Hooded eyes can often be confused with droopy eyes. Droopy eyelids or just one droopy eyelid can affect a person’s ability to keep their eye/eyes open all the way, which in turn affects their vision and this could point to a condition called ptosis. Hooded eyes are a normal hereditary trait where a person has excess skin folding down from the brow bone to the lash line.

The lack of eyelid space and a hidden crease can make all sorts of eye makeup looks extra difficult for those of us with hooded eyes. But this does not mean you have to be restricted with what you can achieve. Here are some tips to help you work with your hooded lids.

Portrait, Beauty, Make-Up, Woman, Girl, Model, Brunet

  • Don’t use shimmery or satin eyeshadows as the shimmer reflects the light and can make your eyelids look larger and puffier. Do use matte colors that absorb the light and make the hood look like it is receding.
  • Don’t use liquid eyeliner. Do use pencil eyeliner.
  • Don’t try a winged eyeliner, the hood of your eye will likely cover up the liner anyway and can make your eyes look more hooded. Do apply eyeliner to the lashline, but no further.
  • Don’t apply eyeliner above your waterline as this will take up valuable space on your lid and make your eyes look smaller. Do apply it thinly on your eyelash waterline.
  • Do apply a highlight as close to the arch of your eyebrow as you can get, far away from your hood. Don’t apply the highlighter too low down as it will then highlight your hooded lid and make it appear bigger.
  • Don’t draw attention to the undereye areas and this can drag your eyes down. Do apply a minimal about of eyeshadow to the lower lash line to balance out your hooded eye.
  • Don’t get stingy with the mascara! Do use mascara to build up your lashes as much as possible or use false lashes to make your eyes look much bigger.
  • Don’t forget to blend your shadow upwards. When applying your eyeshadow color do not smudge it along the bottom-most part of your lid as this will emphasize your hood. Do blend it higher to cover the entirety of your mobile lid, into the crease and up on to the hood of your eye. There is nothing worse than spending time creating a beautiful eyeshadow look only to have it completely disappear when you open your eyes! Moving the color higher will make it more visible and creature the illusion of a higher crease.

However, the most important thing about makeup is to have fun. These are some tips to help you get a more traditional look and give you the chance to embrace current makeup trends but, in the end, you should just do whatever makes you happy. Practice your makeup technique and experiment with what looks good on you and what makes you feel confident and beautiful.
