Blessings of Unity For a Happier Marriage #Giveaway #AllForJesus #FlyBy

Did you know that 50-60% of all Christian marriages end in divorce? In his book, The Blessings of Unity, Richard Case who with his wife Linda has been doing marriage retreats for over 14 years, found only a few of those marriages that have not moved to divorce are truly reflecting the wonder and glory of God. The remainder are living in mediocrity, ongoing conflict and certainly not enjoying the beauty of marriage.

Richard says that while we may be initially attracted to our spouse because of how different their personality is to ours, it is those differences that cause conflict. The husband tries to get his wife to be more like him while the wife does the same with her husband. These attempts to change the other person lead to significant conflict.

Richard and his wife Linda learned from their own marriage troubles that something was not right. They then learned the 2 keys to a successful marriage were :

Be abiding in the Vine and walking in the Spirit. (John 15: 1-15)
Learning the concept of unity–we are to live and only live through the principle of unity. This means working toward reaching agreement on all decisions, all issues and all things of our lives 100 percent of the time, all the time. (Psalm 133)

Next, there is a written exercise for husbands and wives to evaluate their marriage.

Chapter 2 is all about the opposite of unity-division and discord. This is a great chapter filled with concepts, scripture and personal examples from the author’s marriage.

Now you may be thinking, this is crazy, my spouse and I cannot agree on everything. I admit, I had the same thought. The author does not think that is possible either and says it is okay to disagree. In fact it is important for each of us to hold integrity with our true thoughts, beliefs and insights. The important thing is they don’t let it ruin their night or weekend, instead they get to unity by seeking God’s will.

There is also a chapter dedicated to handling disagreements and differences in opinion.

I think this is important and I think the whole concept can help us give up the fight to be right and seek peace and pray for God’s will instead. Who does not want more peace in their life?

Make Every Day Your Best Day Ever! #HolidayGiftGuide #Giveaway

One of my pet peeves is when people say they are “busy” because busy people can go around all day being busy and not get anything done. Have you seen those people? They spend the day rushing around, huffing and puffing, pounding on their computer keyboard, starting multiple tasks, complaining all the way but at the end of the day, they have accomplished next to nothing. Being busy is not good, you want to be productive!

I have found that time management is essential to getting things done. I actually teach a course for Mastering Time Management for bloggers and another for business professionals. Having a positive mindset is one thing I know helps me to manage everything I need to get accomplished each day. Whatever words you follow “I am” with, can set the tone for the moment, the day, your life. So instead of saying, “I am stressed, I am behind, I am overwhelmed” say, “I am going to accomplish great things today, I am blessed, I am healthy, I am productive.” You will be surprised how your thoughts can change the way you feel, the way you work and ultimately change your life!

Another big thing is to write it down and make it happen. It is easy to become distracted, especially if you are an adult with ADD. So keep a list every day. There are apps for this but I like a paper list because I feel it is more tangible. I actually write it down and I get to cross it off when it’s done which is a great feeling.

Our attitude sets our day, we cannot control all the situations that happen but we can control how we respond. Part of that is setting the tone for each day. Make every day your best day ever!

Peace of Mind Thanks To #BayAlarmMedical

After my mom died, my 87-year-old dad was living alone and I worried about him. Even though I lived only a few houses away, I wondered, what if he fell or had a medical emergency? That was when I got him a medical alert system that he wore on his wrist to call for help. It gave me great peace of mind to know he would be able to immediately call for help if he fell or had a health issue.

My dad has since passed away but I was thinking about how medical alert systems are not just for the elderly but could be a life saver for anyone. They are especially helpful for individuals living alone especially in remote areas.

I remember the day a friend’s dad fell shoveling snow off his walk. He could not get up, the temperature was frigid and there were no close neighbors. My brother found him thankfully or he would have frozen to death.

I have a very close relative who is in his early 60’s, not elderly but a very active and vivacious man who lives in a remote location. I thought a Bay Alarm Medical Alert unit would be perfect for him. He is always doing work on his property out in the country. He chops wood, loves home improvement projects, mows with his tractor and maintains numerous bird feeders all over his yard.

I wanted to help eliminate the stigma that a medical alert system is only for the elderly. I hoped he would be open to testing it out and indeed he was. The system we received included a main console, a secondary help button, which we mounted in the bathroom, a pendant, wrist unit, vial of life and a pair of Boomba socks.

It was a very easy process to set it up and literally took about one minute. All we had to do was hook the main console unit up to the phone line. It is advised to test the unit after installation by pressing one of the help buttons.

We pressed the button on the pendant and a Bay Alarm Medical operator promptly answered through the main console and asked if we needed help. We knew quickly everything was ready to use in an emergency.

Bay Alarm Medical sends a form that you can list the people you want called in an emergency in addition to 911 if necessary. Another helpful thing that comes with the system is a magnetic Vial of Life which can be filled in with any medications taken. It can be placed on the refrigerator using the magnet on the back. This will assist paramedics in an emergency situation.

Inside the package was a pair of Boomba Socks, they come with every subscription as a Bay Alarm Medical partner. For each pair of socks they give away, they’ll donate an additional pair to the Socks in the City Program at the St. Anthony’s Foundation.

The In-Home System like we installed for our loved one is Bay Alarm’s most popular unti and trained operators can respond through the main console 24/7. It does require a landline but there is an In-Home Cellular unit that gives 24/7 medical alert protection without a wired phone connection. That unit is powered by AT&T’s 3G Network.

The Automatic Fall Detection unit works with both landline and cellular in-home alert systems and can automatically call for help if the individual cannot. They also have a GPS Help Button which literally can go anywhere because it has the speaker and button together in a compact mobile unit!

I hope he never needs to use it but knowing he is only one button away from getting the help he needs gives me great peace of mind.

Go Out And Seize Your #PoiseMoment

Did you ever notice it is those things we don’t discuss and feel alone with that we eventually find out are so common. Once we start to talk about it, others usually chime in and before long we know we are not alone. I think that is one of the things I like most about blogging. As a blogger, I can use my blog and voice to bring awareness about all kind of things. If I can help just one person to feel better or live a better life, that is significant to me.

I am going to talk about something I think will end up helping way more than 1 person and to do that I am going to get out of my comfort zone. After naturally birthing 5 huge babies I noticed that I experienced light bladder leakage (LBL) that was triggered by exercise, coughing or sneezing. I did not even know at first because it only happened every once in a while but when I finally figured it out I was a little upset. I mean, I had heard about it and had friends that talked about it but really did not experience it myself. So I began to research it and I found out that 1 in 3 women experience LBL. Some women experience it during pregnancy and some after but it is very common.

I was also not surprised to find out that many women used period pads or panty liners to absorb leaks. You might think it does not sound like a bad idea but period pads were not designed for LBL. Many other women did not use any kind of protection and found their lives interrupted because of unexpected LBL.

In an effort to bring awareness about the Poise brand they teamed up with Brooke Burke-Charvet to help educate women about LBL and empower them to seize their Poise moment. So what is a Poise moment? I did not limit my activities because I was afraid I might have some LBL due to all the stretching and climbing. I seized my moment and I climbed that mountain!

It is hugely empowering to take back control and I have Poise to thank. I was one of those women that thought Poise was no different from thin period pads or liners. I thought a pad was a pad but it was not until I finally tried Poise that I found out there is a significant difference and that is when I felt the need to tell other women. I want to let them know they do not have to limit their activities due to LBL.. So live a vibrant, active life and not only seize the day but Seize your Poise Moment.

Skillet Chocolate Chip Cookie Sundae Recipe

I love being a woman, I cherish so many incredible experiences like; feeling my children grow inside me, giving birth, nurturing my child from my own body and so much more. We can experience all that and be amazing, successful women on a professional level too!

I embrace all aspects of being a woman except that time of the month. I know it is essential to our fertility and serves a purpose but that does not mean it is pleasant. I tend to spoil myself a little during that time, let myself indulge on those chocolate cravings my body is demanding.

Chocolate cravings are something many women have right before or when they have their period and it is probably because chocolate makes us feel better as it releases serotonin to our brains. It has been said that eating chocolate can produce the same type of euphoric feelings that falling in love does. So does that mean we have a love affair with chocolate? I know I do and since I believe in moderation in diet, I don’t beat myself up for eating it. I eat healthy, so if I have a special chocolate dessert or candy bar during my period, I don’t feel guilty.

The changing hormone levels associated before and during our period can trigger all kinds of cravings. Some women crave carbohydrates, meats, high fat food and more. Anyway, back to chocolate, I want to share a recipe that will not only satisfy your chocolate cravings but will make your whole family happy.

Chocolate chip cookies are one of my favorites but you know I love a good ice cream sundae. I love a sundae with vanilla bean ice cream, hot fudge, caramel, fresh whipped cream, chopped nuts and a cherry. This dessert combines my two favorites, so I can have my cookie and ice cream sundae! Below you can follow the video tutorial and print the recipe to make this yourself. It is guaranteed to satisfy everyone’s chocolate cravings!

Skillet Chocolate Chip Cookie Sundaes

Ingredients

2 Sticks of Butter, Softened
1 Cup Packed Brown Sugar
1/2 Cup Granulated Sugar
1 Tablespoon Pure Vanilla Extract
2 Eggs
2 Cups of All-Purpose Flour
2 Heaping Teaspoons of Instant Coffee
1 1/2 Teaspoons of Baking Soda
1 Teaspoon of Salt
2 Cups of Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
Whipped Cream:
2 cups of heavy whipping cream
6 tbsp. of sugar
2 tsp. pure vanilla extract

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 175°C | 350°F.
Cream together the butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar with an electric mixer.
Add the vanilla and eggs, mixing well.
Combine the flour, instant coffee, baking soda and salt in a separate bowl.
Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients a little at a time mixing well after each add.
Stir in the semi-sweet chocolate chips.
Spread the mixture into a 12" cast iron skillet and bake until colden brown, 30 to 40 minutes.
Remove skillet from oven.
Let cool 10 minutes and cut into 16 slices.
While cooling pour the heavy whipping cream into a bowl, add sugar and vanilla and beat with electric mixer until stiff peaks form.
Cut it into sixteen slices and top slices with vanilla bean ice cream, hot fudge, caramel sauce, chopped nuts, fresh whipped cream and a cherry.

How To Live The Life You Never Expected- #lifeweneverexpected #FlyBy #Giveaway

As we go through life, I have found that many things we worry or have anxiety about never happen. Then sometimes in life something totally unexpected, the curve ball hits us, and knocks us for a loop. It was that way when my teenage son was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Andrew and Rachel Wilson were hit with something unexpected that turned their lives upside down when both of their children were diagnosed with regressive autism. It was not something they thought was in the realm of possibilities either when they started a family.

This book takes a very honest look at what it is like for them raising two special needs children. The highs and lows, coping with all kinds of suffering, their personal stories and the encouragement that keeps them going that is rooted in the truth of God’s word. Andrew and Rachel focus on lessons they learned when fighting for joy and thriving in the midst of trials. They focus on how Christ, the One who promises to make all things new has been such a support to them on this journey.

The authors tell it like it is, this book is raw and very helpful in showing the very real side of raising children with challenges. Love, Legacy, Family and Faith is woven within My Mother’s Quilts.-Win A Quilt!

Today is my mother’s birthday and she is celebrating in Heaven. Loss and grief are hard, the loss of a mother is profound. The other weekend I was talking with a friend about loss. The loss of our mothers. I told her about the way my mother died a few days after having a massive brain stem stroke. I spoke about the suddenness of it all and how my life changed forever with her passing. I told her there were so many things I still needed to ask her and so many questions I have that only she knows the answers to. She told me that it really was best she went that way for her but it is hard on those left behind. She is right. My mother and I were very close and every day I think of things that I want to ask her, a recipe, a memory, a question about something we did and yet I can’t.

Ramona Richard’s book, My Mother’s Quilts is about her mother who was a master quilter. Quilting was her mother’s passion and the quilts all had a story. Ramona’s mom did not die unexpectedly and she was able to tell her daughter that she wanted the quilt she made with her mother’s handkerchiefs on her coffin instead of flowers. She was able to share the stories behind the quilts and now Ramona is passing them on in this book. This book is made up of the stories of the quilts and a matching devotion that shares the message of God’s grace and faithfulness. Every chapter begins with a Bible verse and ends with a prayer starter. The lessons of the quilts are applicable to anyone’s life. There are fundamental lessons of honoring the lives of those that have gone before us, accepting the flaws in the people we love, accepting one another and so many more.

At the end of the book Ramona shares that she is finishing a quilt that her mother worked on until her eyesight and stamina started to wane a couple of years before her death. She found the bow tie quilt in a white sack on the top of her mother’s closet. The quilt was almost finished, it just need the last few squares to be quilted and the binding attached. Ramona sat with the quilt and knew she wanted it finished. Her first thoughts were to ask someone to finish it but then she realized that she needed to do that.

Ramona is not a quilter but she said quilting is in her blood and this is her mother. She thought that we may be quick to let other people do the work we need to, teach our children about life and faith, take care of loved ones and volunteering where we’re needed. Scripture reminds us that we won’t be judged on the earthly things we accomplish. Instead, God looks at our heart and how we lived our beliefs. So while Ramona’s stitches are not as tiny or as straight as her mother’s, finishing the quilt is her way of saying, “You ran a great race. Thank you, Mom. The last prayer starter asks the Lord to help us remember that one of the best ways we can honor those that came before us is to continue sharing all that they have given to us. Amen

How to create your financial plan with less stress

When you hear the words financial planner, do you wince a little? If you do, you are not alone. I wince too and so do most of us. The negative feelings and dread most of us feel when thinking about meeting with a financial planner usually stem from a past negative experience or uncertainty about what to expect. Are we saving enough? Do we have a plan for retirement that is sufficient? Are we investing wisely? Are we totally off track and headed down the wrong road? All these questions and more run through our minds. For most, facing them and finding out the answer can be terrifying. That fear causes many to go through life without a clear financial plan and ironically, that is what we should be more afraid of.
