The Very Real Mental Disorder of Pregnancy Addiction

Have you ever know someone who was addicted to pregnancy?  It’s very different from wanting a large family.  Women addicted to pregnancy are obsessed to the point that nearly every aspect of their life relates to wanting to be pregnant, trying to get pregnant or being pregnant.  Social media has fueled this addiction because now they can use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and more to search for ways to announce the pregnancypregnancy test

Pregnancy addiction is a real psychiatric disorder and women with the disorder will get pregnant over and over, even though they already are overwhelmed by the children they have.  The high comes from the pregnancy, making the announcement is such a high, they usually announce before the pee stick is dry.  Then the constant updates of morning sickness, cravings, belly pics, sonograms, names, big gender reveals and more.  This all leads up to the big day and the culmination of the big birth story.

pregnancy cake

Then without skipping a beat, they start discussing how long they will wait before becoming pregnant again and often post about the fact that they might be and asking their friends if they should test and then making them wait on the results. The reason this is so fun for them is because they feel like they are a star, they crave the attention and are usually very insecure and wanting to fill a void with the pregnancy.  This is something they can focus on and bask in the comments, praise and adoration of friends and family.  They can be neglectful of the children they have in order to focus their attention on connecting with social media about the pregnancy.

Psychologist and Psychiatrists describe pregnancy addiction and the constant need to get pregnant as much an addiction as substance or alcohol abuse.  Psychiatrists describe it as a mental disorder.  The women who suffer pregnancy addiction are usually stay-at-home moms without a job or career and feel being pregnant gives them a purpose and makes them valued.

pregnant woman

The women describe themselves as feeling feminine and womanly when pregnant and relish the adulation they receive because it makes them feel like the center of the universe.  Many women use the constant pregnancy as an excuse for not pursing any other interests, career or education.  They are insecure and uncomfortable with the thought of being outside their role as a mother.

pregnant-women

Other women are addicted to pregnancy as they feel it will save their marriages and that their husband will never leave them if they have lots of children.  They look at the children as something that will hold the marriage together like mortar and continue getting pregnant to avoid ever having an empty nest.  The children tend to be a buffer between the spouses and they lose touch of how to interact with their spouse alone.

pregnancy

The women feel an emotional rush when they think about getting pregnant and once pregnant the release of the hormone oxytocin makes them feel great.  They love the glow and the compliments they get when pregnant.  However, when the baby is born and the focus shifts, they often feel low and are obsessed with getting the feeling they had when pregnant back.  It makes no difference if they cannot physically care for their children, many addicted mothers neglect their children and focus on getting pregnant again.  They often will relish the newborn stage but as soon as the baby starts to become mobile they are deeply longing to be pregnant again.  Pregnancy addiction is a real disorder and women experiencing it should seek psychiatric treatment.

Do you know anyone that is addicted to pregnancy, let us know.

My Conference Call With Marlo Thomas!!!

So I said last week that I would update on my conference call with Marlo Thomas.  I was so excited to take part in it.  I had no idea that Marlo Thomas was 76 years old.  I thought she was in her late 60’s, but age really did not matter because her advice was timeless.  She had my eyes filling up with tears when she described how much she missed her mother and her mother’s advice.  I was feeling very similar at the time and her story of how she encouraged others to share the bits of wisdom from their mothers on her Facebook wall just struck my emotions and I connected with exactly how she felt.  itaintovercovershot

She was discussing her new book, “It Ain’t Over…Till It’s Over” which is filled with inspirational stories of women from all walks of life who have reinvented and realized their dreams at any age.  She said that the first thing that anyone needs to do is get rid of the facts.  You know the facts that say you can’t do something because of A, B or C.  Write new facts, she said and stop listening to negative people.

Some other advice she gave was not to start too big and give up and she gave the example of a woman who developed a product.  The woman went immediately to QVC and they rejected it.  Marlo told her not to stop, that QVC perhaps just too big to start with, go local and take it from there but not to just stop.

The stories she highlighted from the book were inspirational and whether it was about a woman’s dramatic weight loss after being mortified on an airline flight not being able to buckle her seat belt or a woman who started a business because her friend on bed rest wanted a pedicure, it showed that nothing is impossible!  I cannot wait to received my signed copy of the book to read all the great stories myself.

marlothomas_publicityshot

She was so gracious and even wanted to stay longer to make sure that anyone who wanted to ask specific questions had their questions answered.  She said that anyone that had anything else that came up could reach out to her on her Facebook page and connect with her.  I am so happy and privileged that I was given the opportunity to take part in such a call.  Thank you so much Marlo Thomas and US Family Guide!

About The Aflac Cancer Center

The Aflac Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is one of the largest childhood cancer centers in the country.

In 2007, approximately 10,400 children age 15 or younger were diagnosed with cancer in the United States. Cancer remains the leading cause of death by illness in the U.S. for people age 15 or younger.

Aflac Duckprints is committed in its mission to eradicate childhood cancer. Thanks to donations made to the research and treatment of this disease, 75 percent of childhood cancers can now be cured.

In honor of Mother’s Day and Aflac’s goal to help support the fight against childhood cancer, Aflac will donate $2 to the Aflac Cancer Center for every post or tweet of former Aflac Cancer Center patient Trisha Henry Gaffney’s inspiring story using #Duckprints.

Trisha Henry Gaffney’s Story

TH photo 2

On Valentine’s Day 1996, 19-year-old Trisha was diagnosed with embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma, an aggressive tumor usually found in the head, neck, hands or feet of young children. Trisha’s was the first reported case to occur in the right ureter, the tube connecting the kidney and bladder.

After going through surgery to remove her right kidney, ureter and a portion of her bladder, Trisha spent a year at the Aflac Cancer Center undergoing chemotherapy and radiation.

Following her treatment for this rare form of cancer, Trisha Henry Gaffney was eager to put her health problems behind her. The last thing she wanted to do was dwell on the effects of her illness.

Trying to Get Back to Normal

Trisha was eager to get back to school, and in January 1997, she went back to Illinois ‒ where she was a student and scholarship swimmer at the University of Illinois ‒ to finish the last few months of chemotherapy.

Her treatment ended in April 1997, and she was ready to put her focus on all of the positive forces in her life. During her treatment at the Aflac Cancer Center, Trisha had started dating Andrew Gaffney, a fellow swimmer from high school. She had a big group of friends in Champaign, Ill. she looked forward to seeing again. In addition, she became a journalism major with the goal of focusing her energy on telling others’ inspirational stories of overcoming obstacles.

In 1998, a friend encouraged Trisha to visit the Cancer Survivor Program at the Aflac Cancer Center. The Aflac Cancer Center provides specialized, long-term follow-up care and helps identify and treat problems associated with the effects of cancer treatment to help survivors lead a full life, including school, work and a family of their own. However, the idea of going to even more doctors didn’t sit well with Trisha.

“You don’t want your cancer to define you,” Trisha said, “but as you get older, you realize it plays a much bigger part in your life than you’re willing to admit.”

Hearing More Bad News

After several years of going to general doctors for check-ups, Trisha finally made an appointment with the Cancer Survivor Program at the Aflac Cancer Center.

“After college, I devoted myself to my work and being normal,” Trisha said. “I put cancer behind me. Then it reared its ugly head at 32.”

During her first appointment at the Cancer Survivor Program, Trisha received her health records.  She was able to gain a broad understanding of her entire health history, including her treatments and the issues they could cause, called late effects.

After meeting with the Medical Director, Trisha went to a fertility specialist, who delivered some devastating news. The lab work showed Trisha’s chemotherapy and 23 radiation treatments had wreaked havoc on her body. Only one ovary was functional, and the radiation had damaged her uterus; she was approaching an early menopause, and she would not be able to carry a child.

“It’s devastating when you can’t have a family,” Trisha said. “I froze my eggs that year. I thought, ‘Screw you, cancer! I want my own kid.’”

After her sister’s best friend offered to be a surrogate, Trisha and Andrew, now her husband, became parents to Isabella in April 2013.  Isabella just celebrated her first birthday, and this Mother’s Day will mark Trisha’s second, thanks to the Aflac Cancer Center and its programs.

TH photo 1

The impact of the Aflac Cancer Center isn’t lost on Trisha. Without the intervention of doctors and nurses in her health, her life would be incredibly different. “If I hadn’t had my friend telling me to go to the Cancer Survivor Program at the Aflac Cancer Center,” Trisha said, “I wouldn’t have my daughter.”

How You Can Help

So please tweet and share your little hearts out for this great cause!!!  Now through Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 11), Aflac will donate $2 to the Aflac Cancer Center for every tweet/retweet, or post/share on Twitter or Facebook using the #Duckprints hashtag.

Sharing My Coffee Journey With Mr Coffee® & Millstone®!!! #CoffeeJourneys Giveaway!!!

I am a member of the Collective Bias®  Social Fabric® Community.  This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for Collective Bias, Millstone® Coffee, and Mr. Coffee® #collectivebias.

#coffeejourneys #cbias #shop #collectivebias

Growing up, whenever I heard the familiar quick double ring of the doorbell, I knew without a doubt,  behind that door stood my favorite uncle.  The sound of the doorbell had me acting like Pavlov’s dog because after letting him in, I started a fresh pot of coffee.

There was no question if he would like some or not, it was a given.  Coffee was a catalyst for bringing us all together.  When the coffee was ready we would all gather round the table or sit on the deck with my parents and whatever siblings were home and talk, laugh and share memories.

#CoffeeJourneys #CollectiveBias #shop #cbias

Coffee is the way I start my morning, it’s something I share with friends, it’s comfort, it means talking with family, sharing time alone or sitting back and watching my kids play. Coffee is weaved throughout my life and it’s more than a drink, it’s a link that joins people together, it’s my #coffeejourney.

Some of my greatest memories of my parents, who are no longer with me, are the talks we had over coffee.  Even as a child, before I drank coffee, the familiar smell was comforting and it meant that I could dip a shortbread cookie in my dad’s cup and savor a bit of the grown up drink that always drew people together.

#CoffeeJourneys #CollectiveBias #shop #cbias

As a mom of five, I understand that interruptions are a part of life but cold coffee shouldn’t have to be.  The Mr Coffee® 10 Cup Optimal Brew™ Thermal Coffee Maker has moms covered and I can always come back to find fresh hot coffee in the sleek, stainless steel carafe.

#CoffeeJourneys #CollectiveBias #shop #cbias

Simple pleasures are some of the best and for me, wrapping my hands around a hot mug of rich, flavorful  Millstone® coffee is the ultimate.  Millstone® has a great selection of coffee that works so well in the Mr. Coffee® drip coffee maker.

My favorites are the flavored coffee, the smell of French Vanilla wafting through the house gets everyone’s attention.  To learn about the Journey of the Bean and get some great insight into Millstone® coffee just click HERE!

Mr. Coffee® 10-Cup Optimal Brew™ Thermal Coffee Maker and Millstone® coffees are available at Walmart.  I went to Walmart to purchase the Mr. Coffee® 10-Cup Optimal Brew™ Thermal Coffee Maker and Millstone® coffees.

The coffee maker is easy to start using right out of the box.  Just a quick rinse and wash of the water reservoir, filter basket and carafe and you are ready to brew.  I purchased a reuseable Mr Coffee basket filter because I find it more eco-friendly and cost-effective than using disposable paper filters.

#CoffeeJourneys #CollectiveBias #shop #cbias

The side mounted, filter basket is removable and makes filling a breeze.  The removable water reservoir allows for easy filling at the sink. The water filter that’s included  fits in the top of the filter basket and will remove up to 97% of chlorine  from the water.  There is a handy red, sliding clip on the top that lets you select the month you put the filter in so that you know when it is time to change it.

#CoffeeJourneys #CollectiveBias #shop #cbias

#CoffeeJourneys #CollectiveBias #shop #cbias

The clock is easy to operate and you can set it for delayed brewing.  The Fresh Brew Timer ensures your coffee is hot and fresh.  You can brew 10 cups of coffee in less than 7 minutes, and if you just can’t wait, there’s a pause and serve feature.

#CoffeeJourneys #CollectiveBias #shop #cbias

The clean cycle helps eliminate any calcium build up.  The stylish, vacuum-insulated stainless steel carafe keep your first cup as hot and fresh as your last.

#CoffeeJourneys #CollectiveBias #shop #cbias

I saved the best for last because you can WIN a Mr Coffee® 10 Cup Optimal Brew™ Thermal Coffee Maker with a bag of Millstone® French Vanilla flavored coffee!!!  To enter just use the Rafflecopter widget below.  Good Luck!!! Open to US residents in the contiguous 48 states.

While you are entering, I need to go because it won’t be long until I am interrupted by that familiar door bell ring.  These days taking time for conversation and coffee with my 89-year-old uncle are more precious than ever!

Sears Customer Service Complaints Mounting and I Know Why!!!

Not sure where to even begin but have to get this out because so many others are experiencing similar issues.  If you just take a look at the Sears Facebook Page you will see post after post about the same issues.  Long story short I was without the use of my dryer which I had a master maintenance agreement on for nearly 8 weeks.  When we called to set up service we were given a date so far out and told that if a cancellation happened it could be sooner.  It was not sooner and the parts that were supposed to be delivered to NY to fix the washer ended up in NH, but that was not the best part, the technician called in sick and they had no replacements.

out of order

After waiting all that time with no dryer in an Arctic blast, where you could not even think to hang clothes up outside, I was at the end of my rope.  When I called customer service the girl on the line could not even find the part order at which time I asked for a supervisor who was rude and would not give me her number, told me there was no one above her in the Phoenix office and basically told me Tough Luck!

nosupport

I wrote on the Facebook Page and emailed and the next day got two very helpful people who wanted to make things right, they offered to let me get a new dryer because of everything and the time that would be needed to get new parts and a tech.  Sounds great right?  That is what I thought except that they could not send the components needed for the new dryer until a week after it was delivered and that since I had a front loading Kenmore Elite washer I needed to get the dryer to go on top that would fit.

bad repairman

The day it was delivered and set up which included moving of both units and securing them etc, I thought we were through the woods.  However my happy feeling was crushed when doing a load of laundry in my washer after the installation of the stackable units, I had my 6-year-old tell me there was water all over.  I found 2 inches of water all over my laundry room and running like a river down 2 adjoining hallways.  I grabbed a carpet cleaner to suck up the water and later found that something had been done to the machine that either broke the spider arm or the support and that was 3/4 of the price of the washer.  Now I had a no washer, a dryer I never would have bought because I would have purchased a different unit had I not had to make it stack with my washer and no end in sight to this fiasco.

broken washer

Called Sears and put through the runaround with having to call their claims company then being called by the case manager and told since I did they could not do anything until that was investigated but did offer me 10% off the purchase of a new unit that I only need to purchase thanks to their man handling of my perfectly working washer.  Oh they upped it to 20% but then never sent the code and I was told if I purchased a new washer, I can kiss goodbye the fact that I will be reimbursed for the damage even when proven.  I was told to stay without a washer even though we live in a rural area and do not have the convenience of running to a laundromat for washing the now piles of clothing that are sitting.

So to anyone dealing with Sears, I truly feel for you and wish to be an advocate not only for myself but for all the others on that page who are going through similar situations.  It is a shame that the company treats its consumers like this.

Today I found out that the washer I have is involved in class-action lawsuits over alleged defects in various front-loading washing machines that may have allowed for mold to build up.  A Chicago-based appeals court said a class action would be the most efficient way to resolve the dispute.

“There is a single, central, common issue of liability: whether the Sears washing machine is defective,” Judge Richard Posner wrote for the appeals court. The Sears case also involves claims that many of the washers had a defective control unit that caused the machines to shut down. At least eight sellers or manufacturers of front-loading washers have been sued. Together, the lawsuits involve tens of millions of consumers and virtually every front-loading machine sold for more than a decade, according to Sears. The Sears case is Sears, Roebuck and Co. v. Butler, 13-430. The Whirlpool case is Whirlpool v. Glazer, 13-431. The Bosch case is BSM Home Appliances v. Cobb, 13-138.

Update–4/9  Well, heard nothing and could not get through to claims except voice mail which never results in a returned call.  The lovely customer service team also erased my concerns from their Facebook page thinking if they were deleted the issue would go away.  I am through with Sears, they have non-existent customer service, they don’t care about their customers or stand behind their products.  I just bought a new washer and it is not a Kenmore Elite, it is not a Kenmore anything and it best of all was not purchased from Sears!  Is it any wonder Sears is on the verge of closing its doors forever when it treats customers like this?

Mohawk Valley Trading Company, Grade A, Dark, Robust Maple Syrup Review and Giveaway!!!

Do you like great Maple Syrup?  If you do, Mohawk Valley Trading Company has a Grade A, Dark, Robust Maple Syrup that is absolutely delicious.  It has a great rich flavor with just the right amount of sweet to pour on French Toast, waffles, pancakes, oatmeal, yogurt or whatever you like to pour it on!

Sierra Exif JPEG

The syrup comes in glass bottles and is made primarily from sugar maple sap, which is preferred for maple syrup production because it has an average sugar content of two percent. Sap from other maple species is usually lower in sugar content, and about twice as much is needed to produce the same amount of finished syrup.

We tried this syrup and my husband and I immediately agreed it had to be the best maple syrup we had ever tasted. We look forward to weekend breakfasts even more since we have this syrup to compliment our waffles, pancakes or french toast.

The Mohawk Valley Trading Company offers the highest quality unprocessed natural products we can produce namely; Maple Syrup, Maple Sugar, Honey, Raw Honey, Beeswax, Beeswax Candles, Handmade Soap and Natural Skin Care Products.  Their warehouse is located in Utica, NY.  They only sell their products online.  If you would like to order or need more information, you can email them at info@tenonanatche.com.
