Several weeks ago I was sent a few pairs of socks from Chrissy’s Knee High Socks. As it is summer, I am not wearing knee socks, but I do like wearing socks in the fall and winter. I thought I was being sent knee socks, but the socks I received were extremely long, they went way past my knees, and looking at their site, it looks like I was sent thigh high socks.
Frankly, I would have preferred to select the kind and style of socks that I will actually wear. The socks are colorful and seem well made. They have socks for men and women on their site.

I want to introduce you to a new picture book by the New York Times bestselling author/illustrator of Max the Brave comes an inspiring and adorable picture book about a pair of unlikely friends who face down a pack of bullies, Ed Vere. How To Be A Lion shows kids that you don’t have to roar to be heard.
Leonard is a lion who has a duck named Marianne, as his best friend. One day the lion bullies come around, and tell Leonard they understand he is different, he likes writing poetry and being gentle, but not chomping a duck is going too far.
Leonard and Marianne find a way to show the lion bullies that there is more than one way to be a lion. In the end, the words Marianne and Leonard put together, show the bullies that they should worry about being themselves and let Leonard be who he is.

While we still have snow here in New York State, it is starting to melt. In fact, big chunks of snow and ice were sliding down our roof today. We are going to be seeing signs of spring very soon. I always laugh when anyone tells me someone is an “overnight success”, because nothing could be further from the truth. What they fail to see is the years of hard work, failures, perseverance and sheer determination that fueled the success they see. The successful person they see did not arrive at that level overnight. That false perception, is what causes so many to give up and quit pursuing their dream when they don’t see immediate results.
If you delve into the life of any successful person, you will find out just how hard they had to work, and all the challenges they had to rise above to reach their goals. As a parent, one of the things I stress the most with my children, is the importance of having a “failure is not an option” attitude if they want to reach their goals, because things will get hard. If a person doesn’t have that type of attitude, it is easy to give up, so it is important to know, failing is not a bad thing.
Failures can be great things even blessings because, they show us what is not working and give us time to readjust our sails and find a better way. A failure is not an indication that we should give up our dream, it is just a detour, a time to regroup and rethink our strategy. We often learn, that are failures are just a catalyst that help us find a better way. The only way to truly fail is to give up an quit.
The story of someone who faces extreme adversity and achieves great success is very empowering and uplifting. How many of us like to root for the underdog? Most of us do, and that is why movies with that type of plot are so popular. This weekend we sat down to watch American Wrestler: The Wizard, a movie based on the life of Ali Afshar.
In the film 17-year-old Ali Jahani, escapes certain death in the mine fields of Iran by relocating to a small town in California and living with his uncle.
The film takes place in the late 70’s and Ali faces a great deal of bullying and discrimination in his new school and community. He also finds himself at odds with his uncle one night, causing him to storm off into the night. Walking around town he goes up to the school and watches a wrestling match. Since he was too small for football and too short for basketball, Ali tries out for the wrestling team and makes it.
Making the team ends up being his saving grace in more ways than one. The first way it helps Ali, is that it creates common ground between him and his uncle. Ali’s uncle was going to send him back to Iran until he saw that Ali made the wrestling team. When his uncle hears Ali made the team, he tells him that he was a wrestler and begins to train Ali. Ali is thrilled that he gets to stay in the United States and begins to build a bond with his uncle through training.
Working hard and training hard, Ali becomes a star on the wrestling team and earns himself the admiration and respect of his teammates. All of that is shattered by following a tragic piece of advice his uncle offered. When all seemed to be lost, he found a way to rise above a desperate situation and once again regain his place as a star of the wrestling team. Ali’s uncle also found acceptance as the associate coach and mentor to not only Ali but all the boys on the team.
Things were going so well, until out of nowhere, tragedy strikes. Ali’s world is turned upside down, but he has to stay strong and find a way to not only succeed but to triumph above everything. This movie had us on the edge of our seat at the end rooting for Ali in one of his biggest challenges. This inspirational film drives home the message, that you can’t give up when things get tough.
The actor who plays Ali’s uncle is none other than, Ali Afshar himself. The movie also stars Jon Voight, William Fichtner and George Kosturos as Ali. While we were without power, an intergalactic adventure, Aliens Ate My Homework arrived on DVD, Digital, and On Demand Tuesday, March 6th! The film adaption of the first book from the popular Rod Allbright and the Galactic Patrol series by Bruce Coville follows a pair of middle schoolers racing to save the world from destruction after extraterrestrials invade Earth.
My kids finally got to watch this and they loved it! We also, enjoyed watching it with them. I think most parents will like it as much as their kids.
Aliens Ate My Homework entertains and empowers young audiences with humor, heart, and a whole lot of imagination. The film starring William Shatner is the first of a planned series of inventive action-comedies from Universal 1440 Entertainment, a production entity of Universal Studios Home Entertainment.

Wow, the weather has taken a serious dip in the Northeast. Tomorrow is going to be absolutely frigid, the morning will feel like 7 below 0 degrees F. The only bright spot is that next week, we should be back to more seasonable temperatures.
When the weather gets colder, I get into the mood to make hearty meals that stick to your ribs and warm you up. I love a good pot roast, beef stew, pasta fagioli and other flavorful stews and soups, on cold winter days.
If you have been following Mommy Ramblings for a while, you will remember my posts about the best way to cook hearty soups and how to make the perfect beef stew. The right cookware, and the way you cook, really make a difference in how your recipes turn out. I love trying new things in the kitchen and, I have always wanted to try cooking in a Tagine.
A Tagine is a cooking vessel that is used to cook food at a low temperature, for a long time. The unique shape of the Tagine lid allows steam to circulate, which works to keep all the ingredients tender and moist. This kind of vessel and cooking method, works so well with dishes like pot roast. The end result is that type of meat that just falls apart so beautifully, and melts in your mouth.
I just finished cooking my second pot roast in my Emile Henry Tagine, and I don’t think I will cook pot roast any other way. There are so many great recipes you can make in a Tagine. My daughter loves cooking chicken tagine. Any type of recipe that you can cook at a low temperature for a long time, will turn out well.
There are many different kinds of Tagines on the market, but I prefer the Emile Henry Tagine. This Tagine is made of their Flame Ceramic and can be used directly on the heat of the stove or in the oven. This is perfect, because I love starting off on the stove cooking my onions and garlic, browning my meat, and then transferring it all to the oven, to cook for several hours.

My kids loved the The Nut Job movie so, when The Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature arrived on our doorstep a few weeks ago, they could not watch it fast enough. We set it up in our Epson projector and they were glued to the screen from beginning to end. When I asked them about it, my one son said that the part where (spoiler alert) Surly thought Buddy was dead was really sad. He was really happy when he turned out to be just unconscious. With the days getting dark earlier and the temps getting colder, it is so nice to snuggle up on the couch by the fire and read with my kids. A book we have been diving into recently, is The Splendid Baron Submarine by Eric Bower. This is Eric’s second book in The Bizarre Baron Inventions series. This novel follows the Baron family as they set off for an underwater adventure with their steam-powered submarine. It is not all fun and games, their journey is filled with complications that the Baron family is not prepared for.
Young, clumsy and terribly unscientific Waldo “W.B.” Baron is really excited for a deep-sea diving adventure when his clever, inventor parents are hired to go on a secret treasure hunt. This top-secret mission ends up being filled with very unexpected shark attacks, diving mishaps and even a pirate’s curse. Follow as W.B. discovers these complications one stumble, trip and fall at a time.
My boys love this book, and I am enjoying it with them. It is one of those books that we need to read just one more chapter of before calling it a night. What a week! With so many going through unspeakable pain due to the shooting in Las Vegas and the people trying to rebuild their lives in Puerto Rico, Texas, Florida and the Caribbean, one questions keeps coming to the surface…What is going on in this world?

Another song on the CD that I think many will relate to is, Never Stopped Loving Me. It reminds us that no matter if you go astray or through a dark period, God never stops loving you. He is always there for you, and that is a very comforting.

The Answer was just released on October 6th and is Jeremy Camp’s 15th career album in 15 years. Our dog Zoey is a West Highland White Terrier, but most of the time she is not white because she loves to dig in the dirt, chase critters and get dirty. When we give her a bath, if we don’t keep an eagle eye on her, she will run out into the yard and roll in the dirt.
Do you know what a wet Westie looks like after rolling in the dirt? If not, they look more like a Scottish Terrier. It is something we have grown to understand, we know she will need to be bathed a lot, and that we will have to deal with her terrier behaviors that make her white coat black.
I had to chuckle when I opened up the new book, Baby Chomper’s Bath Time by Jeff Minich. It is about a little puppy that just like my Zoey, who does not like baths. One day, baby Chomper escapes from his house and does what he does best, gets dirty. Chomper rolls in the mud, dives into trash and gets sprayed by a very smelly skunk. When he returns home, stinky as can be, there is no doubt that baby Chomper needs a bath.
With nowhere to run, Chomper realizes bath time can be one of the most fun times of all! He uses his imagination and finds out baths don’t have to be bad. In fact, they can be really fun. He can imagine he is on all kinds of adventures while in the tub. He can dive into the deep blue sea, be the captain of his own ship and surf to a faraway shore.
This picture book teaches children a valuable lesson of looking at the bright side of things. It shows them, if they change their attitude, things might not be as awful as they think. The story provides the perfect springboard for discussion with your own children or in a classroom setting.

I recently had the chance to review a Men’s genuine leather wallet by Kinzd. It was the Crazy Horse Men’s Slim Bifold Wallet with RFID Protection. I was very impressed with this rugged looking men’s wallet. It has a very nice suede feel and was expertly crafted.
It arrived in a black gift box, so easy to wrap and gift. The details are very nice. The wallet is stitched around the edges and opens to reveal multiple pockets for credit cards, license, membership cards etc. there are small pockets on each side of the card holders and a large bill pocket.

It has been a sad and stressful week in our house. My uncle, my father’s brother, passed away. He was my last living uncle and the only “grandfather” my youngest children knew, since my father had passed away before they were born. I was very close with my uncle, especially after my dad died, 10 and a half years ago. Even though he lived a long life, it was still sad to lose such a beloved man.
After this week we are definitely in need of some time to enjoy some much-needed family time. That is why I was so happy to recently receive Let’s Go PJ Masks on DVD as an Official PJ Masks Blogger. This DVD has six action-packed episodes, plus a super new music video and a bonus set of stickers! Tonight we will pop some popcorn, grab some candy and drinks and settle in for a family movie night in front of the TV.
Our kids are excited to see Catboy, the real parade leader save the day from Night Ninja, even though he does not think he can lead the Ninjalinos without his drum. They can’t wait to see what happens when Luna Girl turns a sleeps-walking Cameron into her very own human puppet and it is up to the PJ Masks to save the day…but Gekko needs to stop messing around first.

Do you take a lot of photos? I sure do! I love my DSLR and how easy it is to share, save and edit my photos instantly. While it may be ideal to share your photos through email, social media and online photo sharing sites with your family and friends, there are benefits to being able to print and share photos at home.

This unit was so easy to set up, we inserted the 1 ink cartridge and let it go through a 4 minute set up. Then I inserted my SD card and it was so easy, my 7 and 9-year-old were able to select their favorite photos and print them. I know, When Jesus Was A Green-Eyed Brunette may sound like a weird title for a book but what a book it is! Max Davis grew up with a church that turned him away from God. Tis’ the season for sending packages. When you are shipping packages and want to print your labels at home, it is important that you weigh them accurately. If your package weight is off, you will either pay more or risk the package being sent back or sent to your recipient with fees owed.
Some people rely on bathroom scales but they are not made to weigh packages. They also can be highly inaccurate. Do you earn extra income selling on eBay or Amazon? If so, you really need to have something better than a bathroom scale.
I want to share a scale I found to be perfect for all my shipping needs. It is the the Smart Weigh USPS UPS Digital Postal Scale.
This scale is heavy duty and has a weight capacity of 440 lbs. It features a high quality stainless steel platform and has an easy to read LCD display. This scale is great for home or office use.
This scale has some very nice features, use the TARE option to consecutively weigh multiple items, the PCS function accurately gives you a count of items that weigh the same. This scale operates on a 9 Volt battery that is included but it also has a USB cord to use as an additional power source. The scale can display the weight in kg/g/lb/lb:oz and comes with a 2 year warranty.
I was very impressed with this scale, I weighed a variety of items including my kids and my husband, a new vacuum, a 10 lb bag of sugar and more. It was highly accurate and I like that you don’t have to lean over to see the reading. The display is able to be placed eye level or on a counter so that it is easy to read and not obscured by a package.
I have the protective film on still, it is beautiful stainless steel underneath. The OCD is telling me to leave it on so it stays nice. lol
It is easy to operate and has a beautiful gleaming stainless steel platform. We really like the versatility of the USB cable and the high weight capacity. It is really nice to have a shipping scale with a large weight capacity like that. I can even weigh my dogs on it! I love baskets, they lend such a warm and cozy touch to any room and they are incredibly useful. I like high quality baskets because they are made to last. If you wake up with a running or stuffy nose, have a dry cough, sneeze often, suffer from itchy or watery eyes, the culprit causing your allergies may be your home. Dust, pollen, pet dander, mold and more can be found in most homes. Here are some tips for a cleaner, healthier home.
Get rid of wall to wall carpeting and padding and replace with hardwood, tile or other impervious flooring. Carpeting is a magnet for just about every allergen, walking across them sends releases those allergens back into the air. If it is not possible to get rid of all your carpeting or if you have to do it little by little, start with the bedrooms.
Double up on the door mats, have one outside and right inside the door to minimize the chance of introducing irritants into your home. It is also a good idea to remove your street shoes at the door and encourage your guests to do the same.
Curtail the curtains and drapes. Opt for blinds or shades instead because they trap fewer allergens than window treatments made from fabric. If you must have curtains or drapes, make sure to get ones that are machine washable and wash them often. Vacuum blinds and shades once a week with a brush attachment, wash them regularly with warm water and soap especially if you keep the windows open often.
Many are allergic to mold and with over 100,000 different species of mold in the world it is hard to get away from. Mold loves damp places that is why it is so prevalent in bathrooms. Make sure you dry surfaces of standing water and make sure your bathroom has adequate ventilation. Replace caulk around sinks, tubs and showers to prevent water seeping in and encouraging mold growth behind the walls.
Check under your kitchen and bathroom sinks, make sure there are no leaks or drips that will be a breeding ground for mold. Also check for rodent droppings another allergen.

I love reading aloud with my kids. This summer we had the chance to check out Time Traveling With A Hamster by Ross Welford.
This book is packed with adventure and time travel. 12-year-old Al Chaudhury’s dad died when he was just 8 years old. On Al’s 12th birthday he received a pet hamster, a letter from his dad. The letter directs Al to their old house where he will find a time machine. The time machine is an ancient Apple laptop and a metal wash basin.
His father’s letter contains a mission that will require Al to travel back to 1984 and save his father’s life. You see there was a go-kart accident when he was 12 that is the cause for his death at age 39. If Al can go back in time and prevent that accident, he can change the outcome of events that happened after. Al is given a choice of accepting the mission or not and you can bet Al accepts. Time travel is not easy and Al finds out that going back in time 30 years requires more than courage and imagination. It requires lying to his mom, stealing a moped, setting his school on fire and keeping his pet hamster safe through it all.
This book makes a great read aloud book you can read a chapter at a time with your kids or one that older kids can read on their own. It is a really fun book to read together and leads to lots of great conversations afterward.

After my mom died, my 87-year-old dad was living alone and I worried about him. Even though I lived only a few houses away, I wondered, what if he fell or had a medical emergency? That was when I got him a medical alert system that he wore on his wrist to call for help. It gave me great peace of mind to know he would be able to immediately call for help if he fell or had a health issue.
My dad has since passed away but I was thinking about how medical alert systems are not just for the elderly but could be a life saver for anyone. They are especially helpful for individuals living alone especially in remote areas.
I remember the day a friend’s dad fell shoveling snow off his walk. He could not get up, the temperature was frigid and there were no close neighbors. My brother found him thankfully or he would have frozen to death.
I have a very close relative who is in his early 60’s, not elderly but a very active and vivacious man who lives in a remote location. I thought a Bay Alarm Medical Alert unit would be perfect for him. He is always doing work on his property out in the country. He chops wood, loves home improvement projects, mows with his tractor and maintains numerous bird feeders all over his yard.
I wanted to help eliminate the stigma that a medical alert system is only for the elderly. I hoped he would be open to testing it out and indeed he was. The system we received included a main console, a secondary help button, which we mounted in the bathroom, a pendant, wrist unit, vial of life and a pair of Boomba socks.
It was a very easy process to set it up and literally took about one minute. All we had to do was hook the main console unit up to the phone line. It is advised to test the unit after installation by pressing one of the help buttons.
We pressed the button on the pendant and a Bay Alarm Medical operator promptly answered through the main console and asked if we needed help. We knew quickly everything was ready to use in an emergency.
Bay Alarm Medical sends a form that you can list the people you want called in an emergency in addition to 911 if necessary. Another helpful thing that comes with the system is a magnetic Vial of Life which can be filled in with any medications taken. It can be placed on the refrigerator using the magnet on the back. This will assist paramedics in an emergency situation.
Inside the package was a pair of Boomba Socks, they come with every subscription as a Bay Alarm Medical partner. For each pair of socks they give away, they’ll donate an additional pair to the Socks in the City Program at the St. Anthony’s Foundation.
The In-Home System like we installed for our loved one is Bay Alarm’s most popular unti and trained operators can respond through the main console 24/7. It does require a landline but there is an In-Home Cellular unit that gives 24/7 medical alert protection without a wired phone connection. That unit is powered by AT&T’s 3G Network.
The Automatic Fall Detection unit works with both landline and cellular in-home alert systems and can automatically call for help if the individual cannot. They also have a GPS Help Button which literally can go anywhere because it has the speaker and button together in a compact mobile unit!
I hope he never needs to use it but knowing he is only one button away from getting the help he needs gives me great peace of mind.

Father’s Day is tomorrow and my husband got an early present, a bacon bouquet! You probably think that sounds funny but he really did. He is not really into flowers, truth be told he does not know the difference between a flower and a weed most of the time. That has led to some huge problems when he decides to just weed my flower beds without telling me, but let’s not go there now. Back to the bacon. My husband likes jerky so when I found out I could get him a Chef’s Cut Real Bacon Jerky bouquet it was a no-brainer. If you live in the northeast or will be visiting soon and are looking for family fun destinations, we have you covered! Camelback Resort Lodge and Aquatopia Indoor Waterpark is located in Tannersville, Pennsylvania in the picturesque Pocono Mountains. This resort features Aquatopia, the largest indoor waterpark in the Northeast that opened in 2015. The waterpark is awesome!
There is a lot to do for kids of nearly every age. The lifeguards are very attentive and collisions in slides are avoided as they pay extremely close attention to make sure the first rider is out completely before allowing another rider down the slide.
Penguin Play Bay is an area that even the youngest kids can enjoy! Multiple swings, small slides, water activities and of course some shallow water to splash and play in provide hours of tyke size enjoyment.
Kartrite’s Quest is a large area that offers fun for kids 40″ and above. Prepare to be soaked as a large bucket on top dumps water on unsuspecting guests below. Kids have so much to do in Kartrite’s Quest! They can splash, slide, play basketball, test their coordination and so much more!
There are many slides throughout this area that vary in size from pint size to ultra grande! Small open and tube slides are great for kids to start out on. When they have their slide groove totally on, they can go up the stairs and ride any or all of the 3 large slides atop the quest! Out ‘N Back Trek & Silkroad Runner Slide are 2 of the larger slides for kids and adults alike. Then there is the Lava Luge Bowl Slide that shoots riders out into a large bowl area. We rode all these slides and had a blast!
There is a pool area where the water is a max depth of 3’6″ and features the Ally-Oop Lagoon. The lagoon has several basketball hoops on the wall and multiple balls so everyone can try their hand at some water hoops. There is a large artificial tree in the center of this pool that separates the sections. Off to the other side is the Croc-O-Nile Crossing. A series of floating platforms along with an overhead climbing type rope ladder that kids can hold onto as they make their way from platform to platform tests their coordination and navigation skills. If they do fall in they have to start over and cannot climb on a platform from the water.
The Great Ka-Na-Gawa Wavepool is a large pool that turns into a wave pool intermittently with the sound of a loud fog horn.
Children regardless of how well they swim need to wear a life vest if they are under 42″. There are life vests available for all ages supplied by the lodge. This policy was not enforced until our last day and our little guy was so upset when he was told he had to wear a vest based on his size alone. He was upset since he had been in the pool the entire stay without one and knows how to swim very well. This same situation played out many times with many other kids during that day. It would be best if all lifeguards followed the same procedures so the kids don’t get upset. I think there should be some type of water test for children who may be short but are good swimmers to allow them to go without the vest.
The waves are very fun and the wavepool was one of our family’s favorite things. We spent many hours in that pool. The lifeguards on duty at the wavepool are very attentive and constantly scanning the water for anyone in trouble. Our kids had a blast in that wave pool and never tired of it. There are clear round tubes guests can use in the wavepool to sit in or hold onto. Guests are also able to just stand or free swim.
The Lost River was another favorite spot. There is a current that guides you around in a single tube, double tube or you can free swim it. Cascading waterfalls at certain points will get you wet if you don’t navigate away from them.
The Venus Slydetrap is a 608ft. raft ride for 3-6 people. This is what we considered a family ride but our little guys were hesitant to ride and so we had to skip this. It looked really fun and I was disappointed not to be able to try it.
My husband and 9-year-old went on some of the free-falling slides-The Paradise Plunge and the Skydive Plummet that looked very intense. They had a blast but they were not for the faint of heart!
The Bombora Flowrider is an action packed surfing simulator. Guests can surf or Boogie Board and show off their amazing skills to the people who gather to watch. My husband gave some Boogie Boarding a try! There are lessons available in the morning and after closing. The waterpark is open until 9 pm.
Mystic Springs is an indoor/outdoor warm spa lagoon with hydrotherapy jets. You can enter indoors and proceed to go into the outdoor section even in winter. The hot tub can be used by everyone and is not just 18 or older. This may or may not pose issues for you. The issues we saw were some youngish teenagers that were making out in there. There is also no lifeguard in the hot tube area and it is to be used at your own risk.
There are cabanas that you can rent if you so choose. Towels are provided but they are small. There are lockers and changing rooms. There are plenty of chairs, tables and lounge chairs around all of the attractions. There is food available, but it is the typical chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, fries, pretzel type stuff. Absolutely no food or drinks are allowed in. GoPro and similar action cameras are not allowed to be used on the rides.
It was not crowded when we went so there were no issues with that. I know from prior reviews they used to have the park open to the public and not just guests of the lodge. When it was open like that, there were reports of it being too crowded which I assume caused them to give the lodge guests exclusive access.
When you exit the waterpark you walk straight into a large arcade and the air condition can be quite a shock. The arcade seemed to have a nice selection of games but our kids are more the kind that want to be the action so they did not play any games. We all kept busy and active in the waterpark during our stay.
There are several types of rooms to choose from. Rooms with bunk beds and suites are available. The rooms are not well-lit and are very dark. There is no sink in the bathroom but that is very common in these types of resorts. It does make one think what is on the door handle of the bathroom since you cannot wash your hands before coming out. The bathroom is very small and just has the toilet and tub/shower combo. We had a room with 2 queen size beds and a sofa that also opened to a bed. There was no maid service our second day which shocked me since we had been through most of the towels and thought they would replenish them. There was no turn down service offered.
The wi-fi is a bit iffy depending on where your room is located. We had to change rooms as the first room we had did not have a wi-fi signal at all. From what I heard many people were unhappy with the wi-fi coverage. Since I have to be able to log on and write, no wi-fi was not acceptable. When we changed rooms they put us near the front desk and we did have a good wi-fi connection.
The staff in the lodge could benefit greatly by some serious customer service training. This is not just my own opinion. Most of the guests we met there admitted the same. At check in, you could hear a bit of arguing among guests and staff as they were told coupon booklets were not valid that clearly showed they were and other issues. The lodge staff was not friendly and cheerful and requests were met with grunts or huffy annoyed breathing complete with eye rolls. That was really annoying and totally uncalled for. However, when you went to the waterpark you forgot that and did not encounter it again until you returned to the main lodge.
Due to the staff in the lodge we went to eat off the premises. If you want to go out, there are several family and fast food restaurants off site as well as a Shop Rite and Walmart. The rooms have a microwave and small refrigerator with a tiny freezer. Even with a few more than 2 lumps in this Camel’s back, the waterpark made up for the down side. There are activities you can pay for outside the waterpark like ziplines and other action activities.
We did run into guests who said they got good deals on a room, coupon book and breakfast vouchers on Groupon. If you are planning a trip check out specials.
