A Doll House That Fascinates Adult Collectors & Children Alike! #Giveaway #HolidayGiftGuide

Lunby Logo

I have always loved dolls and doll houses. I did as a child and as and adult, I am still an avid lover and collector of both. I am amazed at the number of adult collectors of Lundby Swedish Doll Houses. There are many groups on Facebook alone dedicated to long time and brand new Lundby Doll House Collectors.  I have been collecting Lundby for a few years now. You  may remember my previous posts about my Lundby Smaland Doll House. Lundby smaland Doll House stock

I am here to show you some new additions to our Lundby doll house. First the biggest addition is really getting ready for Winter and swapping our Garden for the Winter Garden. We put away the trampoline and the race car because the garden is covered in sparkling snow. There is a small hill where the family has fun skiing and sledding. A snow-covered stone wall with a stylish gate surrounds the garden. Smaland Winter Garden

Smallland Winter Garden

We added the Winter Family so that Mommy, Daddy, Sister and Brother are properly dressed for their winter activities.  Then of course the Smaland Winter Accessories with backpack packed with two thermal containers, plus 2 sets of skis. The set also includes a sled, a snowman and a “snowball pile” with real light!

Lundby Winter Family

We added some new interior furnishings as well. A set of Nursery Baby Furniture with a crib, bedding and changing table/dresser combination. This collection includes an adorable Chest with 3 drawers, a Crib with bedding, plus a sweet Teddy Bear to cuddle at night or during naps. Lundby Baby Furniture

We added the Lundby Smaland Aquarium Set as well. The realistic aquarium is filled with 3 colorful fish and a seahorse. The aquarium is pre-wired with a working light and looks wonderful when lit.  Two potted geraniums are included to spruce up our Smaland house decor. To complete the look,  a gorgeous painting by artist Lisa Rinnevuo is included. This exquisite work of art is reproduced from one of the artist’s real paintings.

Message To The Oversharers- Thanks So Much For Not Sharing!

Facebook Thumbs Down

Did any of your friends post that powerless legal notice on their Facebook timeline to protect their copyright and privacy rights?  I’m sure you know some that did. You know what I find ironic about that?  They are the very same friends posting pictures on their timeline that I would like to be protected from!  They think just about every life situation calls for a quick smartphone pic and upload to all social media accounts.

I don’t know if the oversharers understand,  the few minutes I spend scrolling through my news feed are accompanied with a cup of coffee.  I  don’t want to see how your C-section scar is healing or the 42 staples in your husband’s leg.

No to compound fractures.  I don’t want to see how you severed your finger opening a can of corn.  I will pass on the chance to see your tibia sticking through your skin following your fall  on the ice. I know your killing time waiting for the ambulance, but please, the visual is not necessary.

I  don’t want to diagnose your mystery rash or see the contents of your new baby’s diaper, nor do I want to see your just delivered placenta.  Please spare me the dismembered rodents your cat brought you, parasites in tuna cans, your bloody nose or the gash you’re taking your child to the ER for.

Oversharing Meme

Come on now people! If you must share that kind of stuff, it needs to have a cover and disclaimer that the following image may not be suitable for all audiences. Then those truly interested in seeing how you just lost the nail on your big toe, can click to view.

Really, I can’t even imagine what it will be like 5 years from now.  Will you ask the nurse if she can take some video with your iPhone as you’re wheeled down the hall to have your gall bladder removed?  At least a few Instagram pics, she should be willing to do that.

How about we ask ourselves if we really need to share the things we do?  Could we do that before we post them and send them streaming though our Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest accounts?

Until they come up with the cover and disclaimer, how about asking who ever would like to see the stitching of your perineum to send you a private message . Then you can send them the link to the YouTube video.

Thanks so much for not sharing.

The Very Real Mental Disorder of Pregnancy Addiction

Have you ever know someone who was addicted to pregnancy?  It’s very different from wanting a large family.  Women addicted to pregnancy are obsessed to the point that nearly every aspect of their life relates to wanting to be pregnant, trying to get pregnant or being pregnant.  Social media has fueled this addiction because now they can use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and more to search for ways to announce the pregnancypregnancy test

Pregnancy addiction is a real psychiatric disorder and women with the disorder will get pregnant over and over, even though they already are overwhelmed by the children they have.  The high comes from the pregnancy, making the announcement is such a high, they usually announce before the pee stick is dry.  Then the constant updates of morning sickness, cravings, belly pics, sonograms, names, big gender reveals and more.  This all leads up to the big day and the culmination of the big birth story.

pregnancy cake

Then without skipping a beat, they start discussing how long they will wait before becoming pregnant again and often post about the fact that they might be and asking their friends if they should test and then making them wait on the results. The reason this is so fun for them is because they feel like they are a star, they crave the attention and are usually very insecure and wanting to fill a void with the pregnancy.  This is something they can focus on and bask in the comments, praise and adoration of friends and family.  They can be neglectful of the children they have in order to focus their attention on connecting with social media about the pregnancy.

Psychologist and Psychiatrists describe pregnancy addiction and the constant need to get pregnant as much an addiction as substance or alcohol abuse.  Psychiatrists describe it as a mental disorder.  The women who suffer pregnancy addiction are usually stay-at-home moms without a job or career and feel being pregnant gives them a purpose and makes them valued.

pregnant woman

The women describe themselves as feeling feminine and womanly when pregnant and relish the adulation they receive because it makes them feel like the center of the universe.  Many women use the constant pregnancy as an excuse for not pursing any other interests, career or education.  They are insecure and uncomfortable with the thought of being outside their role as a mother.

pregnant-women

Other women are addicted to pregnancy as they feel it will save their marriages and that their husband will never leave them if they have lots of children.  They look at the children as something that will hold the marriage together like mortar and continue getting pregnant to avoid ever having an empty nest.  The children tend to be a buffer between the spouses and they lose touch of how to interact with their spouse alone.

pregnancy

The women feel an emotional rush when they think about getting pregnant and once pregnant the release of the hormone oxytocin makes them feel great.  They love the glow and the compliments they get when pregnant.  However, when the baby is born and the focus shifts, they often feel low and are obsessed with getting the feeling they had when pregnant back.  It makes no difference if they cannot physically care for their children, many addicted mothers neglect their children and focus on getting pregnant again.  They often will relish the newborn stage but as soon as the baby starts to become mobile they are deeply longing to be pregnant again.  Pregnancy addiction is a real disorder and women experiencing it should seek psychiatric treatment.

Do you know anyone that is addicted to pregnancy, let us know.

Aflac logo cmyk

As the mom of a Hodgkin’s Lymphoma survivor, I find the incidences of cancer diagnosis rising so troubling.  It seems every time I turn around, I hear of another person being diagnosed.  Aflac has a goal is to raise awareness and donations to aid in the fight against childhood cancer via a variety of social media activities using #Duckprints. The ultimate mission of Duckprints is to eradicate childhood cancer.

Aflac will donate $2 to the Aflac Cancer Center for every #Duckprints tweet/retweet on Twitter or post/share on Facebook. They need your help to get the word out! It’s an opportunity to not only help spread awareness, but to contribute to a great cause!

About The Aflac Cancer Center

The Aflac Cancer Center and Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is one of the largest childhood cancer centers in the country.

The Aflac Cancer Center is committed to providing childhood cancer patients a brighter future through advanced medical treatment, family-centered care, a child-friendly environment and innovative research.

Aflac is proud to have donated more than $87 million to the Aflac Cancer Center, with the goal of reaching $100 million by the end of 2015.

About Childhood Cancer

According to the National Cancer Institute, the five-year survival rates for all childhood cancers combined increased from 58.1 percent in 1977 to 79.6 percent in 2003.

In 2007, approximately 10,400 children age 15 or younger were diagnosed with cancer in the United States. Cancer remains the leading cause of death by illness in the U.S. for people age 15 or younger.

Aflac Duckprints is committed in its mission to eradicate childhood cancer. Thanks to donations made to the research and treatment of this disease, 75 percent of childhood cancers can now be cured.

In honor of Mother’s Day and Aflac’s goal to help support the fight against childhood cancer, Aflac will donate $2 to the Aflac Cancer Center for every post or tweet of former Aflac Cancer Center patient Trisha Henry Gaffney’s inspiring story using #Duckprints.

Trisha Henry Gaffney’s Story

TH photo 2

On Valentine’s Day 1996, 19-year-old Trisha was diagnosed with embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma, an aggressive tumor usually found in the head, neck, hands or feet of young children. Trisha’s was the first reported case to occur in the right ureter, the tube connecting the kidney and bladder.

After going through surgery to remove her right kidney, ureter and a portion of her bladder, Trisha spent a year at the Aflac Cancer Center undergoing chemotherapy and radiation.

Following her treatment for this rare form of cancer, Trisha Henry Gaffney was eager to put her health problems behind her. The last thing she wanted to do was dwell on the effects of her illness.

Trying to Get Back to Normal

Trisha was eager to get back to school, and in January 1997, she went back to Illinois ‒ where she was a student and scholarship swimmer at the University of Illinois ‒ to finish the last few months of chemotherapy.

Her treatment ended in April 1997, and she was ready to put her focus on all of the positive forces in her life. During her treatment at the Aflac Cancer Center, Trisha had started dating Andrew Gaffney, a fellow swimmer from high school. She had a big group of friends in Champaign, Ill. she looked forward to seeing again. In addition, she became a journalism major with the goal of focusing her energy on telling others’ inspirational stories of overcoming obstacles.

In 1998, a friend encouraged Trisha to visit the Cancer Survivor Program at the Aflac Cancer Center. The Aflac Cancer Center provides specialized, long-term follow-up care and helps identify and treat problems associated with the effects of cancer treatment to help survivors lead a full life, including school, work and a family of their own. However, the idea of going to even more doctors didn’t sit well with Trisha.

“You don’t want your cancer to define you,” Trisha said, “but as you get older, you realize it plays a much bigger part in your life than you’re willing to admit.”

Hearing More Bad News

After several years of going to general doctors for check-ups, Trisha finally made an appointment with the Cancer Survivor Program at the Aflac Cancer Center.

“After college, I devoted myself to my work and being normal,” Trisha said. “I put cancer behind me. Then it reared its ugly head at 32.”

During her first appointment at the Cancer Survivor Program, Trisha received her health records.  She was able to gain a broad understanding of her entire health history, including her treatments and the issues they could cause, called late effects.

After meeting with the Medical Director, Trisha went to a fertility specialist, who delivered some devastating news. The lab work showed Trisha’s chemotherapy and 23 radiation treatments had wreaked havoc on her body. Only one ovary was functional, and the radiation had damaged her uterus; she was approaching an early menopause, and she would not be able to carry a child.

“It’s devastating when you can’t have a family,” Trisha said. “I froze my eggs that year. I thought, ‘Screw you, cancer! I want my own kid.’”

After her sister’s best friend offered to be a surrogate, Trisha and Andrew, now her husband, became parents to Isabella in April 2013.  Isabella just celebrated her first birthday, and this Mother’s Day will mark Trisha’s second, thanks to the Aflac Cancer Center and its programs.

TH photo 1

The impact of the Aflac Cancer Center isn’t lost on Trisha. Without the intervention of doctors and nurses in her health, her life would be incredibly different. “If I hadn’t had my friend telling me to go to the Cancer Survivor Program at the Aflac Cancer Center,” Trisha said, “I wouldn’t have my daughter.”

How You Can Help

So please tweet and share your little hearts out for this great cause!!!  Now through Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 11), Aflac will donate $2 to the Aflac Cancer Center for every tweet/retweet, or post/share on Twitter or Facebook using the #Duckprints hashtag.

Miss Lucy’s Monograms Large Insulated Lunch Bag Review & $25.00 Coupon Code Give-Away!!! {Give-Away Ended}

I recently received a custom monogramed lunch bag from Miss Lucy’s Monograms to review.  I picked the black with white detail large insulated lunch bag and I had it monogrammed with my initials in purple.  I was assisted with any questions every step of the way and it was an easy ordering process.  When I received the bag I was quite impressed.  It is a good size lunch bag, like a personal cooler and I just love all the detail.  The adjustable shoulder strap makes it easy to throw over my shoulder when my hands are full with other things.  There are so many pockets to hold smaller things, there is a large front pocket with Velcro closure, a zippered large back pocket and two side pockets.  There is a nice utensil zippered pouch that is very unique and a great thing to have.  The insulated interior is easy to wipe clean on both the lunch bag and utensil pouch.  The opening of the lunch bag has dual zippers so it is easy to get in and out of .  This is also great to use as a small diaper bag that will keep bottles, sippy cups and snacks cool when you are on the go.  I highly recommend this insulated lunch bag and I am very interested in the other products on Miss Lucy’s Monograms Webpage.

Magic Cabin Little Jumpers Folding Trampoline Review and $50 Magic Cabin Gift Certificate Give-Away!!! {Give-Away Ended}

When I had the opportunity recently to do a review for Magic Cabin, I was thrilled.  I have been a fan of Magic Cabin for over twenty years, when I started my family.  I have 5 children that span through 3 decades and it is no surprise to me, that Magic Cabin is still around providing creative and fun toys for my two youngest children.

Magic Cabin has been guided by the simple notion that children’s lives are enriched by ample time for open-ended, creative, imaginative play. They believe in good-old-fashioned make believe and in children’s innate need to interact with simple, natural toys and crafts.

While childhood becomes endangered Magic Cabin is a pioneer towards protecting this special time in life by conscientiously selecting products that are beautiful and enchanting, sturdy and safe, and best of all, FUN.

I selected the Little Jumpers Folding Trampoline to review.  I chose this because I think it is a very safe choice for my little ones, who I feel are a bit too young for a full size trampoline.  I love the fact that it has a handle with a padded bar.  The legs fold in for storage but to tell you the truth I don’t think this will be in storage in our house.  Upon opening the package, we laid out the parts for assembly.

The assembly instructions were very clear.  The first step was to connect the frame with four screws and unfold the legs.  The next step is to knot the bungee cord around the cord lock.

Next step was to thread the bungee cord through the eyelets in the frame.  This works best with two people so that one can thread it through and the other can follow behind tightening it.  My husband and I worked together on this and you really do need two people for this.  When we were through threading it through all the eyelets, I held the cord tight while my husband tied the bungee cord to the other end of the cord lock.

Next, we placed the padded frame cover over the trampoline.  This was very easy and it attached on the bottom of each corner with hook and loop closures.

Next, we attached the sections of the handle together and attached it to the frame.

Then after adjusting the rubber feet to make sure they are in full contact with the floor, we added the kids and pure fun and joy resulted.

Little Jumpers Trampoline-A Magic Cabin Exclusive

A great outlet for kid’s energy and sense of adventure, this heavy duty nylon mesh trampoline can be folded up and hidden under the bed. One of the safest trampolines around, it’s slip-proof: padded covers protect feet from sliding into the bungee cord holes, and the padded handle adds an extra measure of stability.

Use it indoors or out; both bounce mat and finish are waterproof.

Weight up to 60 pounds. Adult Supervision is recommended while this item is in use.

For ages 3 and up.

Size
33-3/4″ Sq. x 32-1/4″H
Floor to the jumping pad height approx. 11″

Earth Monkeys Eco-Friendly Baby & Toddler Products Review & Give-Away!!! {Give-Away Ended}

Earth Monkeys Eco-Friendly Baby & Toddler Gear sent Mommy Ramblings a neat set of their products.  Mommy Ramblings received the Bib, Porta-Pad and Paci-Pack.  These were packed so compact in their little attached bags that they fold up into.  They have an attached recycled aluminum carabiner that is so handy to either attach to something or attach something to.

The bib is super handy to have and wipes clean, a definite must have in every diaper bag.  The handy pocket works well to catch all the crumbs our little ones seem to endlessly drop.

The Porta-Pad is handy for diaper changes on the go and takes up literally no room in the diaper bag and could be attached to the loop on your jeans for the mom or dad on the go, who wants to travel lite.

The Paci-Pack keeps pacifiers tucked away and clean until needed and the handy hook makes it easy to find.

Saltwater Canvas Whale Beach Bag Review & Give-Away!!! {Give-Away Ended}

Helen Langone owner of Saltwater Canvas was so generous to send me one of their Whale Bags for me to review.  We were going on a trip to Florida and with our family, we always have a ton of stuff we are hauling.  I love this beach bag for so many reasons.  First it is huge, second it has so many pockets and my husband especially loved this feature.  We were on the go during our vacation visiting beach islands, going on cruises and with two toddlers and their gear in tow, this bag was up to the the task.  We never ran out of pockets to hold our drinks, bottles, sunscreen, sippy cups and much more.  The roomy interior seemed to never run out of space to hold the endless things we needed to cart along with us.

The bag is so sturdy and will remain open with nothing in it.  It is a mesh bag but is so firm and strong that it holds its shape, definitely not floppy or flimsy.  The mesh was nice because all the sand would sift right through.  The fact that it is machine washable really appealed to me since moms know to expect spills and the fact that you can just pop it in the wash, is priceless.  The interior zipper pocket was very handy and secure and the caribeaner was great to attach our keys.

The colors were great and very vivid.  I got many compliments on the bag throughout our vacation. The Whale Bag is super strong, so much so that we went on a pedal car ride around one of the islands, and I hung the loaded bag on a hook on the outside of the pedal car and it held up fantastically.

The straps are long enough to sling over your shoulder which is great when your hands are full with babies or kids.  I will be using this bag for much more than the beach.  It makes a great huge tote for trips and weekends away and to keep in the car for the kid’s stuff.  Thank you so much Helen for making such a great bag for families.
