Hyland’s Homeopathic Medicines Review and Giveaway!!!Hyland’s Homeopathic Medicines

If you have little ones in school, you are probably dealing with sniffles and sneezes and coughs and wheezes   Ethan was never sick until he started preschool, truly I think the child had one cold in almost 4 years of life, never had an ear infection, never a stomach virus, and I think he had one fever.  Then preschool started and so did the runny nose and his first ever ear infection.  During the school year it seems like they just have waxing and waning runny noses and coughs until spring.  It is not anything to slow them up and so it is nice to find something to just relive some of the symptoms.

I was sent an assortment of children’s cough, cold, allergy and sleep products and an adult cough and cold product from Hylands.  We have used Hylands teething tablets in the past and their cough syrup.  I like that they are homeopathic and that they help with some of the annoying symptoms of a cold.  It also helps that they don’t taste yucky and my kids don’t mind taking them.  Many of the products have dis-solvable tablets just like the teething tablets that your child take 2 or 3 of every 15 minutes until the symptoms disappear and then they can take them every four hours.  My 3-year-old has a cough so we gave him the cough syrup which looks like the honey that it has in it.  My little one drank it right back cheerfully, they both took the tablets for runny noses and  we also have tried the calming tablets close to bedtime.  The products worked and my three-year old was not coughing and they both stopped with the sniffling.  These products are a nice way to calm some of the annoying symptoms without drugging your children.

Hylands is sponsoring a giveaway on Mommy Ramblings.  One lucky blog reader will win the same assortment of products that I received.  Thank you Hylands for the wonderful review products and for sponsoring this sniffle stopping giveaway!!!  Open to US residents.

I was thrilled to be contacted recently by Trueberry and asked if I would like to do a review for their truly personalized children’s books.  More than just a name, their books tell a story that is unique to your child and has their photographs on the pages to really make it a keepsake.  I was able to go to their website and it was so easy to select the book I wanted, edit and add text and pictures and I was done.  The book arrived and it is just superb.  My five year old loves seeing himself as a baby and learning the story of his life and this book is so cute with how it sets up his birth and early years.  This is such a great gift idea that will be treasured.  You can even share this book online with friends and family.

“I Like Old Clothes” by Mary Ann Hoberman Review & Giveaway!!!

I recently received the book, I Like Old Clothes by Mary Ann Hoberman for review.  This is a delightful story that is especially fitting for a child that is the recipient of mostly hand me down clothes.  This book was originally published in 1976 with different illustrations. Follow along as  older sister explains why she likes old clothes to her younger brother.  She loves that the clothes have a history and thinks about who wore them before and what kind of adventures they went on.  It makes a child who may feel bad about or being teased about wearing hand-me-down clothes feel special.

Synopsis

I like old clothes, / Hand-me-down clothes, / Worn outgrown clothes, / Not-my-own clothes. . . . Originally published by Knopf in 1976 (with illustrations by Jacqueline Chwast), this poem—an exuberant celebration of hand-me-down clothes—is just as relevant and accessible today as it was over 30 years ago.  Children’s Poet Laureate Mary Ann Hoberman offers a bouncy, fun-to-read-aloud text and a refreshingly agreeable, resourceful protagonist who likes old clothes for their “history” and “mystery.” Illustrator Patrice Barton brings new, contemporary life to the poem, with an adorable little girl and her younger brother playing dress-up, making crafts, and happily treasuring their hand-me-downs.
About the Author:
Mary Ann Hoberman is the author of And to Think That We Thought That We’d Never Be Friends and many other children’s books.

“Charming, funny…and heartfelt”

– Scott Mantz,Access Hollywood

Inspired by true life events, the People Like Us” Blu-ray Combo Pack comes complete with bonus material that delves deeper into the story that inspired the making of this great film. These extras include audio commentary with filmmakers and talent, an extended scene of L.A.’s popular Henry Taco Stand featured in the film, deleted scenes and bloopers.

“Humane and riveting…One of the year’s very best!”

– Pete Hammond – Boxoffice Magazine

People Like Us” is directed/produced by Alex Kurtzman (Cowboys & Aliens, The Proposal, Star Trek, TV’s “Hawaii Five-O”), written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci (Transformers, Star Trek, Cowboys & Aliens) and Jody Lambert (her first writing debut) and composed by award-winning composer A.R. Rahman (127 Hours, Slumdog Millionaire). Chris Pine, who plays Sam, is a twenty-something, fast-talking salesman whose latest deal collapses the day he learns his father has suddenly died. Against his wishes, Sam is called home to put his father’s estate in order and reconnect with his estranged family. While there, he uncovers a startling secret that turns his entire world upside down — he has a 30-year-old sister (Banks) he never knew existed.

Mommy Ramblings Says:

I really liked this movie, it was engaging and the actors were great.  From the time Sam learns of the death of his father and the first words out of his mouth are, “What’s for dinner?” you know they had a complicated relationship.  When he does finally show up to his childhood home, he is in for a very big shock.  Sam soon finds out he is not an only child but that he has a sister and a nephew.  His nephew is quite a handful and blows up the school swimming pool, getting expelled until his mom Frankie turns things around on the Principal.  Lots of complex relationship and family issues make this a very heartfelt movie and has you thinking about what you would do in the same situation.  See, Sam has $150,000 in cash in a shaving case with a note from his father to take care of his sister and nephew that no one knows about but him.  My husband and I really enjoyed this movie and I think you will too.

“The Chicken Problem” by Jennifer Oxley and Billy Aronson Review & Giveaway!!!

I don’t know who is more excited to get children’s review books in the mail; me or the kids.  We just can’t wait to all sit together and read it and as much as I love my Kindle app on my iPad I still love to read a “real” book to my children.  We recently received The Chicken Problem and we read it through 2 times right in a row it was so good.  It is about a little girl named Peg who likes to solve problems and she also loves pie.  One day her Cat and a pig from the farm set out to have a pie picnic in the sun.  Everything was perfect; Peg had a piece of pie just her size, Cat had a piece of pie just his size and Pig had a piece of pie just his size.   There was just one problem there was a little piece of pie that had no one next to Cat.  Peg didn’t like that so Cat went and brought back a tiny little chick from the chicken coop to have a piece of pie with them.  Everything would have been perfect but Cat left the door to the chicken coop open and now there were 100 chickens dancing, doing flips, doing the chicken dance and just making Peg freak out.  So Cat comes to the rescue again and finds the perfect way to get them all back and for them to finally have their pie picnic with just one tiny chick.  If you are looking for a great book to share with your little ones, The Chicken Problem by Jennifer Oxley and Bily Aronson will not disappoint.

Synopsis:

Full of humor, refreshingly original characters, and math problems that young readers will be clamoring to help solve, The Chicken Problem is an ideal addition to the home or classroom. Left-brained Peg and her right-brained pal, Cat, are enjoying a picnic on the farm with Pig. However, when someone leaves the chicken coop open and the chicks run-a-muck, it’s up to Peg and Cat to use their math skills to help solve their poultry predicament.

Elizabeth Mitchell, “Blue Clouds” Traditional Folk and Classic Rock For Kids CD Review & Giveaway!!!

Smithsonian Folkways Will Release Elizabeth Mitchell’s

Blue Clouds

Traditional Folk and Classic Rock… for Kids

Available October 23rd

Washington, DC, fall 2012 – Over the course of six beautiful albums in nearly 15 years, Elizabeth Mitchell has invited listeners to join her, husband Daniel Littleton, their daughter Storey, and other friends and relatives to become part of an extended musical family. On Blue Clouds (out October 23), she raises her special kind of family-centric music to new heights by bringing clarity and beauty to a surprising range of songs. Breathing contemporary heart into traditional folk songs, and transforming classic rock songs by David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, Van Morrison, and others into folk songs, Mitchell continues to grow that family of listeners with each album and concert. And while the family has grown, with well over 100,000 of her records bringing comfort and joy, Blue Clouds still makes Mitchell’s audience feel like they are part of a small picnic jam session.

The recordings on Blue Clouds are illuminated by elegant and simple arrangements, with acoustic guitars, harmoniums, banjos, pianos, fiddles, glockenspiels, and gentle drums and bass creating a soulful atmosphere forMitchell’s clear and loving voice. The songs range from new compositions (“Rollin’ Baby,” “Arm in Arm”) to traditional tunes (“Hop Up, My Ladies,” “Froggie Went a-Courtin’”), to several unexpected covers. Mitchell looks to her childhood memories of 1970s radio on road trips in the family station wagon, and the resulting versions of “Kooks” by David Bowie, “May This Be Love” by Jimi Hendrix, “Blue Sky” by The Allman Brothers Band, “Everyone” by Van Morrison, and “I Wish You Well” by Bill Withers display Mitchell’s care in presenting popular material in a family music context.

On an album full of moving performances, perhaps the most beautiful is “Circle of the Sun,” recorded in honor of Storey’s cousin, Destry, who tragically died at just four years old. “Blue Clouds,” the title track, was written by Daniel Littleton as a lullaby for Storey when she was only three and is a fitting way to close this loving collection.

Mitchell is also a founding member of the veteran indie rock band Ida and is one of Smithsonian Folkways’ best-selling artists alongside Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and Ella Jenkins. Her previous Smithsonian Folkways releases are Little Seed: Songs for Children by Woody Guthrie (2012), Sunny Day(2010), and You Are My Little Bird (2006). Starting with the album You Are My Flower, recorded in 1998 in a single afternoon as a gift for friends and family, Mitchell has developed into an accomplished artist with a devoted fan base and critical acclaim.

Mommy Ramblings Thoughts:

I was thrilled to review this CD.  My kids are a little different than most being children; with a guitarist father who is passionate about Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, The Allman Brothers and more, they are the few kids that go to preschool singing Foxy Lady, Me and Baby Brother, and Smoke on the Water.  Beyond that we are a very musical family and they are constantly gathered around my husband as he plays the guitar every day.  I was anxious to hear how Elizabeth Mitchell arranged the Hendrix, Bowie and Allman Brother’s songs.  I was very pleased as was my husband with the whole CD and the kids liked it to.  I really liked the Arm in Arm track which is an octopus love song that is too cute with kids vocals that make it endearing.  Kooks is rather funny and this Bowie song is arranged very nicely. Hendrix’s May This Be Love is absolutely marvelous and The Allman Brother’s Blue Sky is arranged perfectly for kids.  You will not be disappointed in this CD.  You can listen to 3 Tracks HERE.

Candle Warmers, Jack O’Lantern Illumination Fragrance Warmer Review & Giveaway!!!

Although the temperature was unseasonably warm today in the northeast; it’s still fall.  Time for pumpkins, apple cider,  pumpkin pie, crisp apples, jumping in leaves, and celebrating all the scents that go with this harvest time of year.  I was recently sent a Candle Warmers Illumination Fragrance Warmer in the Jack O’Lantern design with 2 packs of fall scented wax cubes.  I love Candle Warmer’s products and know the great quality.  This warmer is so cute and so festive for fall.  My little kids love the jolly little Jack O’Lantern and it is safe because there is no open flame.  The bulb inside can be turned on and off with the handy switch right on the cord.  Simply take one of the fragrant wax cubes and put it in the top and turn the light on.  The heat of the light melts the wax and send the apple and spice or pumpkin and spice scents wafting around your home.  The scents are very realistic and will have everyone looking for what you are baking.  Candle Warmers has so many great styles of flameless products and you can get lost in their catalog.

Zutano Newborn, Baby and Toddler Clothes Review & $75 Gift Card Giveaway!!!

Zutano has the cutest clothing for newborns, babies and toddlers in sizes up to 4T.  I was recently sent a selection of Zutano toddler clothing to review.  We received the Chocolate Toddler Cozie Hoodie, Pool Multi Stripe Toddler Pants and Raccoon Screen Long Sleeve Toddler T-Shirt. I was surprised to see the Chocolate Toddler Cozie Hoodie and I mean pleasantly surprised.  We did a review for Zutano about a year ago and we were sent the chocolate pants that match that jacket with some other pieces.  I immediately went to my son’s closet because his older brother who originally wore them last year has outgrown them so now they are his.  I plucked them out and could not believe they still looked brand new even compared to the brand new jacket.  That says a lot about the quality and wear.  So I decided to include them in the review because it speaks volumes to the quality and longevity of the brand.

The clothes are so comfortable and my son loves that the pants have pockets because pockets are very important when you are three.  The clothing is something that washes well, that he can play in and go to preschool in and still look great, the chocolate pants are proof of that.

Chocolate Toddler Cozie Hoodie

The Zutano Cozie hoodie for toddler is a classic item that you will reach for day after day as an extra layer for your toddler girl or boy. Made from our extra soft sherpa fleece, this hoodie is great for layering over tees on fall days or wearing under winter jackets when the temperature plummets. Featured here in chocolate. 80/20 cotton/poly. Imported.

Pool Multi Stripe Toddler Pant

Our tie waist pant for toddler boys has an extra comfy style with wide legs and lots of room for movement. Featured here in our happy pool multi stripe. 100% Interlock cotton

Raccoon Toddler Long Sleeve Screen Tee
