Foil layers reflect solar rays for additional thermal protection. Polar Bottle has never used BPA in any water bottles. Even our first water bottles in 1994 were BPA-free. Kudos to Polar Bottle for always using safe plastic for their bottles even before consumers became conscious of the dangers of BPA.
