Wonder Forge,Richard Scarry’s Busytown Eye Found It! Game Review & Giveaway!!! #HolidayGiftGuide

wonder-forge-logo
Thanksgiving weekend we had a lot of great family time.  It was much-needed and greatly enjoyed.  We took a lot of time to play and just sit and talk.  My husband and I played Richard Scarry’s Busytown Eye Found It! Game with our little guys.
It’s a great game that has a huge board that connects in three pieces.  The game is very interactive and keeps little ones engaged.  In the game you need to get everyone on the ferry and to the picnic before the pigs eat all the food. Along the way you solve mysteries and race through Busytown.  We all enjoyed searching for the objects to find as many as we could before the timer ran out.
Mommy Ramblings things Richard Scarry’s Busytown Eye Found It!  is a great game and we are adding it to our 2013 Holiday Gift Guide!!!  You can buy Busytown Eye Found It!  at Amazon.com.
Richard Scarry's Busytown Eye Found It! Game
Richard Scarry's Busytown Game

Race around town solving mysteries! How many objects can you find? Join Huckle Cat and Lowly Worm on a fun-filled race around Busytown to solve mysteries and find hidden objects. Drive through lively city streets, an activity-filled farm, an action-packed airport, and a bustling harbor full of silly boats. There’s much to discover on this gigantic, colorful game board that’s over six feet long! As players race through Busytown, they’ll team up every time someone lands on Goldbug—leaving no corner of the board unexplored as they discover hidden objects and race toward Picnic Island. With hundreds of objects to find this game provides hours of fun, while building confidence each time a child says, “I found it!”

How Many Can You Find!?
Pig Will and Pig Won’t are on a mission to eat all the food on Picnic Island! Using the illustrated, over six-foot long game board, you’ll work as a team to make it to Picnic Island before they eat the food! Work together with other players to find hidden objects like buckets, traffic lights, flags, or ladders! Everyone gets a chance to say, “I Found It!”—the faster you find the hidden objects the faster you’ll move! How to play, snapshot! After setting up the game board, placing the ferry at the end of the road, and the food items on Picnic Island, everyone chooses a mover. On your turn, the spinner will tell you to move, take away one food item from Picnic Island and spin again, or solve a Goldbug Mystery! To solve a Goldbug Mystery you flip a Goldbug Card and work as a team to find the item on that card on the game board. For each item your team finds you get to move forward a space. To win, all players must be on the ferry and arrive at Picnic Island before the pigs eat all the food.

Lundby Smaland Swedish Design Doll House Review & Holiday Gift Guide Pick!!!

Lundby Lg Logo

If you are someone like me who has always adored dolls and doll houses, you know that no matter how old you get, you seldom outgrow it.  Truth is, we just call ourselves collectors and it’s acceptable to indulge that side of us. A great thing about having kids is that we can actually play with their toys as well.  Sometimes we buy toys more for ourselves than for them.

I have to admit, I was not aware of the rich history that Lundby had in the doll house world.  It didn’t take long to find out, just a quick search on the internet and I found they have been at it since 1947 and they have a very large following of collectors who are restoring vintage Lundby doll houses and reveling in the newest Lundby Smaland Doll Houses and accessories.  The Smaland Doll’s House has been a favorite since the 1950s and was totally redesigned in 2011 with  all-new contemporary decor.

Lundby Smaland Doll House

I was thrilled to assemble our new Lundby Smaland Doll House.  It was very easy and when it was all together, we moved on to the furnishings and the lights!  The Smaland Doll’s House is prewired with Lundby’s unique 4.5 volt lighting system that allow you to decorate with all kinds of Lundby light fixtures.

The house is expandable and you can add an additional 2 rooms to the house, a summer or winter garden and white picket fence.  The house is so detailed and features full functional doors and widows, a balcony and colorful papered floors and walls.  My kids were amazed at the real working lights and  realistic furnishings.   The bathroom set even included the tumblers with little yellow toothbrushes, 2 rubber ducks, towels, shampoo and soap bottles.  The house, available furnishings, dolls, expansion sets and pets allow you to totally create the house of your dreams!!!  Dimensions: 30.3 x 10.2 x 15.4 inches. Scale 1:18. Please note: power supply, lights, furniture, accessories and dolls are not included. Appropriate for children ages 3 and over, with adult supervision.

I chose the Classic Meals plan and for my first meal picked the Spinach Rolls.  They were very easy to prepare.  You simply boil some lasagna noodles, thaw frozen chopped spinach which you mix with Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, one egg and salt and pepper to taste.  Then you take the prepared tomato sauce and put some on the bottom of the pan and lay the noodles down, fill with the spinach mixture and roll.  When they are all done you put the remaining sauce on and top with mozzarella cheese.  Then bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes and put your garlic bread in to coincide with your rolls completion time.  It was so easy and my family loved it!

Magic Cabin, Rubens Barn, Little Rubens Party Collection Dolls Review & Giveaway!!! #HolidayGiftGuide

Magic-Cabin-Logo

I love dolls, I always have. Growing up with a mother who loved dolls and finally had a girl who loved dolls as much as her, I was showered with dolls.  At Christmas there would be so many dolls awaiting me and I was probably one of the only kids who had a mom suggest they get a Madame Alexander baby doll in the Walt Disney World gift shop rather than the typical stuffed Minnie.

I was very much the same with my daughter and relished buying her dolls of all kinds.  Last Summer I was so impressed with Emil, a large Rubens Barn Original Doll that I could not wait to get another Rubens Barn cutie in my arms.  Well, that opportunity arrived and Little Meiya may be smaller than the Original dolls but she is tipping the cuteness scales! She has a full head of that signature downy soft black hair and a darling headband with large bow.

Little Meiya Rubens Barn Doll

Her adorable bubble romper is done in a bright cupcake fabric with a top in bright pink with white polka dots that matches the polka dot band of her headband.  Her sweet little toes peek out and her big brown eyes beg you to give her a hug.  She has a weighted bottom so she is quite substantial and able to sit without toppling over.  In the Little Rubens Party Collection you will find Meiya and many friends who would just love to come home with you.

Rubens Barn Dolls are machine washable so they can join your child on their daily adventures.   I warn you though, these dolls are addicting and you can’t have just one, which has me thinking about who should be next to join our family : ). Mommy Ramblings loves Rubens Barn Dolls so much she is adding them to our 2013 Holiday Gift Guide!

Elizabeth Mitchell, “The Sounding Joy”, Christmas & Solstice Songs From American Folk Tradition CD Review & Givaway!!! 2 Winners!!!

I recently was given the opportunity to preview The Sounding Joy a CD by Elizabeth Mitchell and friends filled with Christmas and Solstice Songs from American Folk Traditions.  When I started playing it my little ones started coming into the kitchen dancing and trying to sing along.  My husband asked me what it was and he liked the sound very much and as a musician himself I would take that as great praise.  I thought it was very well done and definitely filled with joy.

You can get a free download of the song, Children, Go Where I Send Thee by clicking HERE!

The Sounding Joy Elizabeth Mitchell

Elizabeth Mitchell & Friends – Peggy Seeger, Natalie Merchant, Dan Zanes, Aoife O’Donovan & more – explore the Ruth Crawford Seeger Christmas songbook on ‘The Sounding Joy’ from  Smithsonian Folkways

GRAMMY-nominated recording artist Elizabeth Mitchell releases The Sounding Joy, an exploration of Christmas and solstice songs from the American folk tradition.  Drawn almost exclusively from the often overlooked but deeply influential songbook of revered composer and anthologist Ruth Crawford Seeger, these songs evoke an era before mass media and the commercialization of Christmas, when sacred song, dance, contemplation, and gathering were prized above all else during the holiday season. Mitchell’s fifth album for Smithsonian Folkways, The Sounding Joy features husband Daniel Littleton, daughter Storey, and special guests Peggy Seeger, Natalie Merchant, Amy Helm, Aoife O’Donovan, Gail Ann Dorsey, Larry Campbell, Dan Zanes, and John Sebastian, among many other family, friends, and neighbors. This gorgeously reverent 24-song collection attempts to save these traditional American holiday songs from an “unmarked grave,” as Merchant puts it in her essay included in the liner notes. The Sounding Joy is truly for listeners of all ages and is Smithsonian Folkways’ first holiday album in more than a decade.

Sneak Peek at The Sounding Joy: Listen to “Children, Go Where I Send Thee (Little Bitty Baby: A Cumulative Song)”  and

http://www.folkways.si.edu/radio/sounding_joy_preview/little-bitty-baby.html

While recovering from surgery four years ago, Mitchell spent a Thanksgiving weekend thinking about the project that would eventually become The Sounding Joy.  A longtime fan and champion of Ruth Crawford Seeger’s work, Mitchell soon found herself thoroughly immersed in Seeger’s third and final songbook, American Folk Songs for Christmas. Seeger, mother of musicians Mike and Peggy Seeger and stepmother of Pete Seeger, died from cancer at age 52 in 1953, the very same year American Folk Songs for Christmas was published.

The guest artists on The Sounding Joy are impressive. Amy Helm leads a rousing version of “Last Month of the Year” through a groove and vocal quartet style that invokes the early Staple Singers with guitar figures reminiscent of Malian desert blues. Natalie Merchant lends her vocals on the haunting “Joseph and Mary (The Cherry Tree Carol),” and also contributes an essay to the liner notes, while writer/artist Brian Selznick (author of The Invention of Hugo Cabret) provided illustrations for the album package.

Although the songs presented are specific to the Christian tradition, Mitchell’s husband Daniel Littleton cites the inclusive nature of the project, describing the assembly of musicians as an “ecumenical summit” of sorts, with participants of many religious and non-religious backgrounds coming together happily to bring the songs to life. Mitchell sums up the spirit of the album best in her notes: “However you and your loved ones celebrate the last month of the year, I hope it is filled with the sounds of joy.”
