Share Your #LiveUnlimited Moment To Support The MDA

Do you live your life unlimited? I want to share a very special campaign to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Now through July 31st, a generous partner will donate $1 (up to $30,000) to the Muscular Dystrophy Association for every #LiveUnlimited moment that is created and shared via the web too. You can help this great cause by creating your own image and sharing. Get started now by clicking HERE!

Live unlimited

To celebrate the campaign launch, 18 artists (including X Ambassadors, American Authors, and James Dupre!) are sharing live performances throughout the day. You can see updates here. There are also amazing MDA family stories there.

In addition to the Endorphin Warrior bracelets (where $6 of each sale goes to MDA), there are also t-shirts, where $7 of each t-shirt sale goes to MDA.

REACT Sidekick Sends Widespread Alerts With Just One Press–Show Your Support on Kickstarter!!!

REact mobile logo

At Mommy Ramblings we are truly inspired by creative minds taking their vision to the next level.  KickStarter has made it easier for  inventors to bring their creative project to life.  Robb Monkman is one of those creative minds using KickStarter to fund his React Sidekick device.  This Sidekick is transforming the way people call for help in an emergency.  If you’ve ever worried about your safety or the safety of a loved one, you are going to be excited about the React Sidekick, a low energy Bluetooth device that pairs with our free app putting security within reach when it counts. React Mobile app was launched over a year ago and development on that software has not ceased, it soon became clear that the app alone was not enough.

The React Sidekick gives individuals peace of mind that is right at their fingertips without having to reach for or find thier phone, unlock and make a call.  The Sidekick button sends out a wide spread alert with just one press.  When someone clicks the React Sidekick, their trusted contacts will receive an emergency alert email and text message letting them know where you are and that you need help.  The Sidekick can also be set to post emergency alerts on Facebook and Twitter.  As the mom of a daughter who lives an active life and runs and bikes in NYC, believe me this is great news!

React Collage use it when

The React Sidekick’s modular, gender neutral design makes it accessible to anyone. The React Sidekick is perfect for those with an active lifestyle, and brings peace of mind when: Running alone, walking through parking lots, meeting new clients and dating. With the React Sidekick, you can easily alert a wide network whenever your phone is out of reach and the button can be worn on a clip or keychain carabiner. This device is also a great tool to give to children and teens so they can easily call for help in an emergency.  Show your support and learn more about  the React Sidekick on KickStarter!!!

Schoola Helps Schools In Need & Now You Can Save Even More!!! #Clothes4Schools

schoola logo

A couple of weeks ago, I told you about a great way to help schools in need while shopping for name brand clothes for your kids at huge savings or donating clothing they have outgrown. Schoola is an online shop dedicated to recycling brand-name children’s clothes, with 40% of the proceeds going to schools in need. The innovative new program – which saves parents money and gives back at the same time – has been heralded by Fox News, the LA Times, Forbes and Parenting Magazine.

In our last post we shared the story of  a wonderful school in the Bronx called KIPP Academy that is trying to raise $25,000 to fund their music program.  If you want to refresh your memory, you can watch the video below.

About KIPP Academy:

A small school in the Bronx, KIPP Academy works hard to support kids who need all the help they can get. Ninety-five percent of its students qualify for free or reduced-cost lunch. More than one in seven receives special education services. Music helps KIPP Academy reach and engage every child who enters its doors. The slogan on the Music Room wall sets the stage—All of Us Will Learn Music.  No matter what backgrounds they come from or what challenges they face, they learn lessons together that will serve them the rest of their lives.

I think this whole idea is so great and helping schools in need, helps our future!  My older children were so lucky to go to a school that had great curriculum and extra curricula activities as well as extensive sports programs.  The benefit of being able to choose activities, courses and extras that appealed to them enriched their lives so much.  I am so grateful that my youngest are entering the same school and that it still has those options available to the students.
Save 20% now through August 2oth:

Right now, Schoola is extending a 20% discount to Mommy Ramblings’ readers when they shop Schoola donates $1 to help KIPP Academy.  The code to get 20% off your order is BacktoSchoola20 and it is good through August 20, 2014.  This code has a limit of one use per customer.

You can help KIPP Academy and your own school:

You can shop on Schoola for back-to-school clothing, even clothing new with tags and for every transaction that is processed by going through this link, Schoola will donate $1 to KIPP Academy.  That’s not all, everyone that requests a donation bag through the same link will help too because Schoola will donate $1 for every requested bag to Kipp Academy. Perhaps the best part is, if you send in a donation bag of clothing, you can fill out the name of a school you support and for every $5 in sales, Schoola will donate $2 to the school you selected!!! That’s a real win-win for Kipp Academy and the school of your choice!!!   You can follow Schoola on Twitter and Facebook to keep up to date on all the latest happenings.

National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend #CookieBoss

Do you know what season it is?  Maybe you are thinking about football and the upcoming Superbowl but that’s not what I’m thinking of. Are you ready for some COOKIES?!!!  That’s right, Cookie Season is almost here! Girl Scout Cookie Season, and In New York City the Girls Scouts of the USA will celebrate the start of the season by taking over Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central Terminal on Friday, February 7th, from 8 am to 7 pm to give the big apple residents their first taste of this year’s cookies.  Are you ready to celebrate National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend?

Girl Scout Cookies

The Girl Scouts is the world’s largest girl-led business, the near $800 million dollar cookie program was created to teach girls five essential life skills: goal setting, decision-making, money management, business ethics and people skills.  I remember fondly my time as a girl scout, the weekly meetings, crafts, earning badges, learning new skills, bonding with peers, trips and of course the cookie sale.  I loved the colorful order forms and seeing them fill up with orders, picking up all the boxes and delivering them with my mom and sister.

#CookieBoss

When I had my own daughter there was no doubt she would also participate in Girl Scouts. This time I was her troop leader, allowing me to  see and experience Girl Scouts from the other side.  I loved being a troop leader and there was so much support, we had local meetings, worked close with council, went to some tremendous, enriching leader trainings and had the chance to work with some amazing young girls along the way.  It was a wonderful experience even as an adult.

Perfect For Me!!!

Perfect For Me!!!

I will never forget the excitement of the cookie sales, how my dining room became Cookie Central for pick up and how we organized special sales with the girls to sell the extra boxes.  Setting up  the events to sell the extra cookies really helped the girls with their planning, business skills and time management.

cookie car magnet #CookieBoss

We held brainstorming sessions about the best venue with the most traffic, what we would need, dividing up the tasks, coming together the day of the event to set up, do business and learn important skills that would be a foundation for the rest of their lives.  How to deal with people, totaling up orders, giving change, preparing for the unexpected and doing it all with a smile are what the girls would remember at the end of the day along with the laughs and fun we had.  The memories I carry as both a Girl Scout and then a Girl Scout Leader are a gift and the whole experience has enriched my life in so many ways.

Connect with GSUSA on their Website, check out their Cookie Program Page. Follow them on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.  The Girl Scouts of Western NY are also on Facebook and Twitter so stop by and say hi!
